Everfuel has been given the contract to build and commission a heavy-duty hydrogen refueling station in Wuppertal, Germany.

WSW mobil GmbH has awarded Everfuel GmbH the contract for a hydrogen refueling station that will serve a fleet of public transportation fuel cell buses following a European-wide procurement process.

This is Everfuel GmbH’s second contract in Germany for a hydrogen refueling station for fuel cell buses since the firm was created in early 2021 as a totally owned subsidiary of Denmark’s Everfuel A/S.

“WSW is one of the pioneers in the deployment of fuel cell buses in public transport in Germany and Europe. We are very pleased to be able to jointly advance zero-emission transportation even further and to be able to support WSW in its ambitious goals with a high-performance and reliable hydrogen infrastructure,” says Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO at Everfuel.

“Together with WSW we are making our way into the German market, where we continuously will assist in the decarbonization journey WSW is on by providing the needed infrastructure,” says Jens Conrad, Business Development Manager, Everfuel Germany.

The proposed hydrogen refueling station will have a daily capacity of at least 20 hydrogen-powered buses. It is modular, allowing for easy expansion to accommodate a greater number of hydrogen buses.

WSW mobil GmbH now operates 20 fuel cell buses in regular service as part of the project “H2-W – Hydrogen Mobility for Wuppertal” and looks forward to transferring a larger portion of the fleet to zero-emission alternatives.

WSW mobil GmbH intends to increase its fleet to around 150 fuel cell buses by 2030. Everfuel is now constructing WSW’s second hydrogen filling station at the WSW depot Hölker Feld in order to meet these ambitious development goals.
