Galp, a Portuguese company, is keeping an eye on Ceará’s renewable energy industry. The company’s board of directors met with Sedet’s CEO, Maia Jr, to discuss green hydrogen as well as solar and energy matrices. Maia is now in Lusitania, where he is participating in a business and government trip.
“We came away with tangibles. The goal is to create an agenda to learn more about Pecém’s Port and Industrial Complex. He told Focus Maia Jr., “There are numerous opportunities.” The Portuguese, he said, grew interested in green hydrogen. The visit to the State, however, has yet to be scheduled.
Changes in the market
Galp has made a number of moves in Brazil recently. It signed deals with SER Energias and Casa dos Ventos, both of which are controlled by Ceará industrialist Mário Araripe. It bought 4.8 GW of new renewable energy projects in Brazil at the time, mostly in the northeast. The plan is to expand the company’s global green energy portfolio.
It’s worth noting that Portugal is now Brazil’s third-largest oil and gas producer. In 2021, it agreed to buy two solar project clusters under development in Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte, with capacities of 282 MW and 312 MW, respectively, from Ser Energia.
Galp is already one of the major photovoltaic solar energy producers on the Iberian Peninsula, with a production capacity of 1.2 GW. Its plan is to increase capacity to 12 GW by 2030.
