Green Hydrogen Systems has completed phase 1 reliability testing for its X-Series electrolyzer prototype.

Following the technical proof of concept and third-party validation announced on February 29, 2024, Green Hydrogen Systems has conducted over 250 hours of on-site reliability and stability testing of the X-Series electrolyser prototype in Skive, Denmark. The tests demonstrated reliable and stable performance across various loads, providing the technical confidence needed for the company to enter into binding contractual commitments on a performance-based price structure.

Peter Friis, CEO of Green Hydrogen Systems, expressed satisfaction with reaching this milestone, emphasizing that the successful tests underpin the product’s reliability and readiness for commercial rollout. The X-Series product, a 6MW pressurized alkaline electrolyser module, is poised to serve medium-to-large-scale hydrogen plants and projects, offering a competitive edge in the market.

The hydrogen energy sector is rapidly evolving, with various companies developing innovative solutions to enhance hydrogen production and storage. The X-Series electrolyser from Green Hydrogen Systems is positioned within this competitive landscape, aiming to offer a robust and efficient solution for hydrogen production.

Compared to other electrolyser technologies, such as PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) and SOEC (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell), the pressurized alkaline electrolyser used in the X-Series presents a cost-effective option with high scalability. However, the challenge remains in ensuring sustained performance and longevity, which the ongoing phase 2 testing aims to address.

Globally, companies like Nel Hydrogen and ITM Power are also advancing their electrolyser technologies, setting high benchmarks for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Green Hydrogen Systems must not only meet but exceed these standards to secure a significant market share.

Green Hydrogen Systems is actively engaging with potential customers for the X-Series product, with order intake expected to commence in 2024. The product’s alignment with the GreenHyScale project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, underscores its strategic importance in advancing Europe’s hydrogen economy.

The competitive landscape necessitates continuous innovation and adaptation. Integrating lessons learned from phase 2 testing and aligning with market demands will be crucial for the X-Series’ success. Furthermore, securing regulatory approvals and fostering partnerships will enhance the product’s market penetration.
