Höegh Evi has teamed up with SEMOP Port-La Nouvelle to create a floating hydrogen terminal. This initiative aims to import hydrogen from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas.
With support from European projects like HySoW Hydrogen and gas pipeline operator Teréga, this terminal will connect to major hydrogen transport networks in Port-La Nouvelle. This move is set to enhance the industrial and energy sector in the Occitanie region and promote job growth.
The new terminal plans to import up to 210,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030, depending on France’s pipeline readiness. The partners are now evaluating the feasibility and design of the infrastructure required for the port.
Hans Kerstens, CEO of SEMOP Port-La Nouvelle, noted the port’s significant investments towards future readiness. The port aims to facilitate the green energy transition by accommodating renewable energy traffic, focusing on hydrogen. The port aspires to become the main Mediterranean hub in Europe for hydrogen with the help of Höegh Evi.
