According to Pilar Miranda, head of the Huelva Port Authority (APH), the port “has significant potential to become a center for the production and use of green hydrogen.”
This is what she said during the Junta de Andalusia’s Table for the Energy Transition of Transport in Andalusia’s celebration at the port, during which both governments formed partnerships to make Huelva “a crucial area in the growth of green hydrogen.”
In this context, Miranda has stated that “the first alliances” are being formed at this table in order for the province to become a “green hydrogen hub,” because “by hosting the first industrial enclave in Andalusia, it has a high demand for this type of alternative energy, while Huelva has a large photovoltaic energy production capacity, and as an intermodal port, we will contribute to the decarbonization of transportation by promoting this new source of energy.”
In a news statement, the APR’s president stated that the port has “many assets,” including those described above, “to which is added its huge availability of land since it is Spain’s largest port, with 1,700 hectares,” according to the institution.
Felipe Arias, the Junta de Andalusia’s General Director of Mobility, who presided over the celebration of the Table for the Energy Transition of Transport in Andalusia, stated that the table’s main goal is to “assist in the materialization of the change of energy model in transport, in accordance with the Andalusian Government’s commitment to more sustainable and decarbonized transport.”
“Through the formation of numerous working groups to support the shift in the energy model in the Andalusian transport sector, the table aspires to become a meeting and coordination point between the Andalusian administration and the corporate sector,” he stated.
Manuel Lasarra, the Andalusian Government’s General Director of Energy, and Francisco Javier Ramirez, the Managing Director of the Andalusian Energy Agency, were also present at the meeting.
