Veteran Express Secure Logistics becomes Hydra Energy’s second heavy-duty vehicle fleet customer (VEXSL).
VEXSL will get free installation of Hydra’s patented hydrogen-diesel co-combustion injection devices. VEXSL agreed to a long-term, low-carbon hydrogen fuel contract in return for a fuelling infrastructure that allows vehicles to refill as rapidly as diesel trucks. The contractual hydrogen will be priced at the diesel equivalent, ensuring that the fleets’ operating expenses would not rise.
Furthermore, each vehicle will cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 67 tonnes per year while maintaining fuel economy, range, power, torque, and payload capacity – even during the harsh Canadian winters. As a result of rising freight pollution, GHG emissions are rapidly approaching pre-pandemic levels.
VEXSL is a veteran-owned and operated transportation logistics company that combines the security of armored vehicles with the high-volume transport nature of the freight industry to transport climate-sensitive, high-risk, and high-value goods throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and soon the United States.
“At VEXSL, we try to incorporate the newest technologies for safer, more secure supply chains, and we give relevant job opportunities to the first responder and military veteran workforce,” stated VEXSL CEO Cole Fouillard. “Retrofitting our trucks to reduce our environmental impact is a natural next step in our ongoing commitment to the communities we serve and the ESG goals we support.” The best news is that Hydra’s hydrogen truck conversions are completely free, have no negative influence on vehicle performance or warranties, and don’t require us to wait more than a year for new trucks because they can retrofit current ones.”
“Connecting from our Prince George center further east into Canada via transportation routes was a natural next step for our HaaS service,” said Hydra Energy CEO Jessica Verhagen. “We applaud the Alberta government’s efforts to enable further demonstrations of hydrogen’s use in heavy-duty transportation, recognizing that once increased refueling infrastructure is in place, transportation markets have the potential to rapidly scale their decarbonization efforts with Hydra’s commercially available technology.”
“Our collaboration with Hydra and VEXSL is just one aspect of the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) zero-emissions mobility plan,” said Amanda Mesluk, AMTA Manager, Research and Innovation. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide technology and fuel choices to our carrier members who are interested in learning more about the hydrogen future.” We are committed to working with all of our partners to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Alberta and abroad.”
