The Hydrogen Valley of Andalusia, spearheaded by Cepsa, has joined the prestigious Hydrogen Valley platform.
The Hydrogen Valley platform serves as a repository of information on cutting-edge hydrogen projects across the globe. By providing insights into the progress of various initiatives through a comprehensive world map, it offers valuable data on the development of hydrogen valleys. In Andalusia, the Onuba and Carteia projects, led by Cepsa, stand out with an ambitious target of 2 GW or an initial production of 300 tons per year.
With 92 identified valleys on the platform, Andalusia’s Hydrogen Valley faces stiff competition from other prominent projects. For instance, the Basque Hydrogen project, led by Repsol, boasts a production capacity of 21 tons, while the Valencian Valley HyVal project, spearheaded by BP, also aims for 2 GW. Enagas’ Green Hysland project and Enagas Renovables’ Green Crane initiative further highlight the diversity and scale of hydrogen endeavors across Europe.
The Andalusian Hydrogen Valley is not only focused on local development but also aims to establish cross-border connections with neighboring countries. Projects like SmartEnergy’s Orange.bat initiative, featuring a 100 MW electrolyzer in Onda, Valencia, underscore the potential for regional cooperation and hydrogen integration. Additionally, efforts to connect with the Netherlands and France signify a broader vision for hydrogen deployment and mobility.
The significance of Andalusia’s Hydrogen Valley extends beyond national borders, as it has been recognized as a Project of Community Interest by the European Commission. This acknowledgment highlights the project’s alignment with broader European energy strategies and its potential to contribute to regional decarbonization efforts.
