Hyundai Motor Company Australia said today that it will invest in a new hydrogen refueling station in Sydney, taking Australia’s hydrogen transportation industry one step further.
The facility will be built in collaboration with Australian gas technology firm ENGV and will be placed at its corporate headquarters in Macquarie Park.
The new hydrogen refueling station will replace HMCA’s existing hydrogen refueling station, which has been in service since 2014 and has filled Hyundai and rival FCEVs as well as hydrogen forklifts.
The facility will help Hyundai support its growing fleet of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by allowing for speedier refueling and on-site generation of green hydrogen. It will also allow the corporation to continue its efforts to educate external stakeholders about the advantages of hydrogen transportation solutions.
The cutting-edge station will create up to 20kg of hydrogen per day using an integrated electrolyser and will be capable of refueling at 700bar. The Hyundai NEXO FCEV will be able to travel up to 666 kilometers (WLTP) on a single tank, with refueling taking less than 5 minutes.
Mr. Ted Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Hyundai Motor Company Australia, stated that Hyundai is happy to be investing in the Australian hydrogen economy as part of a drive toward a sustainable driving future.
“Hyundai’s long-term commitment to a zero-emission future for Australia is reflected in this investment. Hydrogen fuel cell mobility is expected to play a key part in the country’s transition to cleaner drivetrains, and we plan to assist in laying the groundwork for this vision to become a reality “Mr. Lee explained.
Hyundai has chosen PDC Machines and IVYS Energy Solutions from the United States to deliver the SimpleFuelFast hydrogen refueling station, with ENGV handling local integration, installation, and continuing operating services.
Following CSIRO’s announcement of the Victorian Hydrogen Hub in mid-2021, ENGV, PDC Machines, and IVYS Energy Solutions will collaborate to build a hydrogen refueling system at the national research agency’s Melbourne headquarters.
Hyundai’s initiative, according to ENGV CEO Sean Blythe, will take use of the CSIRO’s knowledge as well as the company’s delivery of the first public hydrogen refueling station in Canberra, which was commissioned by the ACT Government.
“We’re thrilled to contribute to the HMCA project our hands-on expertise establishing hydrogen refueling infrastructure across Australia. We are determined to expanding the country’s hydrogen business in a safe and sustainable manner, together with Hyundai “Mr. Blythe expressed his thoughts.
This declaration comes after Hyundai delivered the NEXO SUV to the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland governments, who both successfully integrated the cars into their fleets.
In Australia, HMCA expects a rising market for its sophisticated hydrogen technologies, which include passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as stationary power applications.
The business is already collaborating with government and industry players across Australia to bring hydrogen mobility initiatives to fruition, with the ultimate goal of creating a countrywide hydrogen refueling network.
