Officials from Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) announced that a groundbreaking pilot project to carry liquefied hydrogen from Australia had demonstrated the feasibility of the new seaborne trade.
Earlier this year, the Suiso Frontier (pictured), built by KHI, transported a cargo of hydrogen produced in Australia from Australia to Japan, arriving in Kobe late last month.
“The demonstration, which covered everything from production to transportation to loading and storage, established the technological foundations for the future use of hydrogen as an energy source in the same way that liquefied natural gas is used today,” KHI executive officer Motohiko Nishimura told reporters.
“Safely operating equipment and facilities is also a game-changing technology for the clean energy market,” Nishimura said.
