Kazakh Embassy in France and the Kazakh Invest national company discuss the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of hydrogen energy development.
The goal of the webinar, which brought together Kazakh and French government officials and experts, was to share the experience of French companies working in the hydrogen sector and invite them to help Kazakhstan develop the sector.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to France Jean Galiev, this area is becoming increasingly important as the country works to decarbonize its economy and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
As the two countries enter the second decade of their strategic partnership, he emphasized the importance of this dialogue. Kazakhstan and France signed a road map for economic and investment cooperation until 2030 last year, with one of the top priorities being the development of technological and environmental projects.
Kazakhstan wants to investigate the production and use of hydrogen, a topic raised by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev last year. He stated at the time that the world has entered a new phase in which global energy is shifting away from fossil fuels and toward renewables, hydrogen, and nuclear energy. Kazakhstan, he claims, has the scientific capacity and qualified experts to establish a hydrogen energy production industrial cluster.
Foreign investors are eager to explore Kazakhstan’s hydrogen sector, according to Kazakh Invest Task Force Managing Director Azamat Kozhanov.
Hydrogen can be made from fossil fuels and biomass, water, or a combination of the two, according to the International Energy Agency’s 2019 report. Natural gas now accounts for nearly three-quarters of the 70 million tonnes of hydrogen produced annually.
