Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has commissioned its first indigenously manufactured electrolyser at the Green Hydrogen Plant in Hazira, Gujarat.
The newly unveiled electrolyser boasts a rated power capacity of 1 MW, with the potential for expansion up to 2 MW, capable of producing 200 Nm3/Hr of hydrogen. Equipped with two stacks and an Electrolyser Processing Unit (EPU) ML-400, the system has been meticulously engineered and assembled in accordance with the latest international standards, offering exceptional flexibility and thermal stability. Following its successful commissioning, the electrolyser will undergo thorough testing in the upcoming weeks to optimize its performance, signaling the commencement of mass manufacturing of similar units.
L&T Electrolysers Limited, a subsidiary of L&T, specializes in the production of pressurized alkaline electrolysers, employing technology sourced from McPhy Energy in France. The company has taken a holistic approach towards manufacturing, collaborating with local Indian vendors and suppliers to ensure a robust “Make in India” initiative. By establishing a production facility in Hazira, L&T Electrolysers aims to cater to the increasing demand for green hydrogen, emphasizing product localization through an enhanced local supply chain and incorporating automation for cost-efficiency.
Notably, L&T Electrolysers has been awarded a substantial capacity of 300 MW per annum under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and executed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
