The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has announced a strategic collaboration agreement between ADNOC, John Cockerill Hydrogen, and Strata Manufacturing, aimed at manufacturing electrolysers in the UAE for both domestic use and export.

The agreement aligns with the UAE’s “Make it in the Emirates” initiative, promoting local industry and creating an investor-friendly environment. By producing electrolysers, which generate green hydrogen from renewable sources without emitting carbon dioxide, the UAE aims to advance its green hydrogen economy and contribute to the global decarbonization effort.

The signing ceremony, witnessed by esteemed officials including His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, highlights the significance of this collaboration. The partnership brings together the expertise of ADNOC, a pioneer in clean hydrogen production, John Cockerill Hydrogen, a leader in large-scale green hydrogen solutions, and Strata Manufacturing, known for its advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, His Excellency Omar Al Suwaidi, emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of future industries and ensuring the national industrial sector benefits from innovative solutions and advanced technologies. The collaboration between national and international manufacturers plays a crucial role in achieving the UAE’s decarbonization goals in alignment with its net-zero and COP28 targets. This strategic cooperation agreement strengthens the industrial sector’s contribution to a greener economy and positions the UAE as a key player in the field of hydrogen.

Hanan Balalaa, Senior Vice President of New Energies and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage at ADNOC, expressed their pleasure in partnering with John Cockerill Hydrogen and Strata Manufacturing, highlighting the critical role of hydrogen as a fuel in the energy transition. The collaboration signifies the energy sector’s commitment to decarbonization and low-carbon economic growth, further reinforcing ADNOC’s position as a responsible energy provider.

Ismail Ali Abdulla, Managing Director and CEO of Strata Manufacturing, shared their excitement about joining forces with ADNOC and John Cockerill Hydrogen in establishing the UAE as a global hydrogen leader. Strata’s expertise in advanced manufacturing will contribute significantly to driving innovation and economic growth in the UAE.

Raphael Tilot, CEO of John Cockerill Hydrogen, expressed delight in collaborating with ADNOC and Strata Manufacturing, emphasizing their leadership in large-scale green hydrogen production and distribution solutions. The partnership aims to explore opportunities for developing electrolyser manufacturing capabilities in the UAE, strengthening the country’s position in the global hydrogen market and supporting its ambitious decarbonization objectives.

ADNOC, as an early mover in clean hydrogen production, plays a crucial role in the UAE’s ambition to become a leading supplier to global hydrogen markets. The company’s investment in Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), which targets substantial renewable energy capacity and green hydrogen production, further demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable energy future.

The “Make it in the Emirates” Forum serves as a platform to showcase investment opportunities within the UAE’s industrial sector and promote sustainability. By attracting decision-makers, experts, investors, and entrepreneurs, the forum aims to highlight the country’s potential as a global manufacturing and innovation hub while emphasizing the importance of reducing carbon emissions within the industrial sector.

The collaboration between ADNOC, John Cockerill Hydrogen, and Strata Manufacturing in manufacturing electrolysers locally represents a significant milestone for the UAE’s green hydrogen economy. By harnessing renewable energy sources and leveraging advanced manufacturing capabilities, the UAE is poised to contribute to the global efforts in decarbonization and sustainable energy transition.
