New study shows professions needed to operate in green hydrogen

The job market is already being impacted by the shift to a low-carbon economy.

This is demonstrated by the ground-breaking study Green hydrogen market and power to X: demand for professional skills, which identified the professions needed to operate in Brazil’s green hydrogen (H2V) chain. In an effort to aid in the development of the H2V market in the nation, the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI) presented the survey in collaboration with the H2Brasil project, a component of the Brazil-Germany Cooperation for Sustainable Development and carried out by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The authors came to the conclusion that, in addition to technical professionals with established profiles who receive specialized training in H2V, economists with experience in planning and management, specialists in regulation and legislation, and engineers with the widest range of specialties (mechanical, chemical, environmental, and production) are the professionals best suited to work in Brazil’s green hydrogen chain.

Five courses covering installation, operation, and maintenance of systems for hydrogen generation made up the training itinerary, or training course within an area, that SENAI designed for 2022.

The first postgraduate course in Green Hydrogen and PtX for the network will be introduced by SENAI CIMATEC in Bahia in the second half of this year, along with a center of excellence in Rio Grande do Norte and five additional regional laboratories (in Santa Catarina, Paraná, So Paulo, Bahia, and Ceará) geared toward professional and higher education in this new industry.
