NextHeat, an engineering company specializing in hydrogen combustion and process heat, has teamed up with Stargate Hydrogen, a manufacturer of innovative alkaline electrolyser stacks for green hydrogen production.

The key innovation in this partnership lies in the integration of Stargate Hydrogen’s Stellar stack technology with a streamlined Balance of Plant system. This integration creates one of the market’s first electrolyzers tailored explicitly to provide carbon-free industrial heat. The implications of this endeavor are significant, potentially driving the industrial sector towards cleaner and more sustainable operations.

The innovative electrolysis concept will work in harmony with NextHeat’s green energy procurement approach, ensuring compliance with RED II requirements for green hydrogen production. By combining this concept with NextHeat’s hydrogen burners, the collaboration delivers a comprehensive solution for industrial clients committed to achieving climate-neutral production.

The applications for this green hydrogen solution are diverse and wide-reaching. Industries requiring high-temperature heat processes, such as the automotive, ceramic, and glass industries, can benefit immensely. For example, it can be used in aluminum melting ovens, ceramic sintering processes, and glass melting, effectively reducing their carbon footprint.

However, what sets this partnership apart is its focus on scalability. NextHeat and Stargate Hydrogen are not merely content with the initial development. They have plans to expand the usage of electrolyser stacks for additional systems. This expansion strategy is poised to contribute significantly to the burgeoning green hydrogen industry.

The first demonstration project serves as the foundation for a long-term partnership, with plans to acquire stack units from Stargate Hydrogen starting in 2024. The ultimate goal is ambitious, aiming to exceed 100 MW by 2028. Such a quantum leap in capacity highlights the commitment of NextHeat and Stargate Hydrogen to advancing the technology of hydrogen production and promoting green industrial heat.

As NextHeat and Stargate Hydrogen embark on this ambitious journey, the possibilities for a sustainable industrial sector powered by green hydrogen seem brighter than ever.
