The Norwegian Ministry of Transport has issued a tender titled “Development of Hydrogen Refueling Stations across Norway 2024-2026,” published on November 25, 2024.
Interested parties must submit their proposals by February 15, 2025. The main objective of the tender is to establish a coherent network of hydrogen refueling stations throughout Norway, supporting the country’s transition to a low-carbon transport sector. The tender seeks experienced contractors capable of designing, constructing, and operating a minimum of 15 hydrogen refueling stations by the end of 2026. These stations should be strategically located to ensure accessibility and convenience for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, promoting the widespread adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source.
This initiative is of great importance to the hydrogen industry as it addresses one of the key challenges in the sector: the lack of adequate refueling infrastructure. By improving access to hydrogen refueling stations, Norway aims to boost consumer confidence in hydrogen vehicles, which in turn could lead to increased production and innovation within the industry. This project aligns with Norway’s broader sustainability goals and its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuel-based transportation with cleaner alternatives.
From a technical standpoint, the tender requires the refueling stations to support a minimum refueling pressure of 700 bar, which is the standard for most hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The stations must also be equipped to handle a range of hydrogen purity levels, ensuring compatibility with various technological advancements in fuel cell design. Additionally, the infrastructure should incorporate state-of-the-art safety features, monitoring systems, and user interface technology to ensure efficient operation and ease of use.
