The NTPC-Simhadri plant in the Vizag region is working on a 50 kW microgrid pilot project using a standalone fuel cell and an electrolyser to produce green hydrogen.
A green hydrogen-based energy storage project will be India’s first.
Bloom Energy India Private Limited-Bengaluru has been awarded a 50kW micro-grid pilot project with eletrolyser hydrogen production at NTPC Simhadri by NTPC.
The 240kW solid oxide electrolyser would use power from the nearby floating solar project to produce hydrogen. A 50kW solid oxide fuel cell would be used to generate electricity from the hydrogen produced during the day’s rays of light. The system would be able to operate on its own.
NTPC hopes to increase its presence in green and clean fuel through this project. NTPC has 68,567 MW of installed capacity, with 23 coal-based projects, seven gas-based projects, one hydro-based project, and 19 renewable energy projects.
