Green hydrogen generation and hydrogen conversion research will be conducted by Malaysian Petronas and Japanese Eneos.
Petronas, Malaysia’s state-owned energy corporation, and Eneos Corp, a Japanese refinery, have agreed to collaborate on the construction of commercial hydrogen production and conversion project in Terengganu, Malaysia.
MALAYSIAN GREEN HYDROGEN WILL BE SHIPPED TO JAPAN
The companies that signed a joint feasibility study agreement will conduct detailed technical and commercial feasibility studies for low-carbon hydrogen production from Petronas’ existing facilities, green hydrogen production at the electrolyzer plant that will use electricity generated by the new hydroelectric power plant, and hydrogen to methylcyclohexane conversion (MCH).
By 2027, the facilities will have a combined hydrogen production and conversion capacity of 50,000 metric tons per year. MCH will be used to transfer the green hydrogen produced to Japan. Through Eneos’ refineries, it will be delivered to Japanese industrial enterprises. By 2023, the final investment choice should be made.
