Samsung SDI and Korea East-West Power have signed a memorandum of understanding at the StarPlus Energy facility in Indiana, marking a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating energy storage system (ESS) deployment and renewable energy initiatives globally.
The partnership will encompass both domestic and international projects, with a focus on ESS development, renewable energy-linked ventures, and grid stabilization solutions. By combining Samsung SDI’s technological expertise in battery cells, modules, and grid-scale storage with Korea East-West Power’s infrastructure and operational footprint, the companies aim to strengthen competitiveness in a rapidly growing market.
Samsung SDI Americas Executive Vice President Heon Joon Kim emphasized that the collaboration enhances the company’s global positioning as a leading energy solutions provider.
Korea East-West Power, which maintains operations across the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia, is leveraging this partnership to integrate advanced private-sector technologies with its extensive generation and grid assets. President and CEO Myung Ho Kwon noted that combining public infrastructure with private technological capabilities is critical for delivering measurable results and expanding business opportunities in the global energy market.
The MoU also includes plans to implement a Management Service Provider project at Samsung SDI’s Ulsan facility, further deepening operational collaboration. Both companies aim to adapt to evolving supply chain dynamics, address growing ESS demand, and capture emerging market opportunities in renewable integration.
