NW Natural and Modern Hydrogen have announced a three-year pilot project in Portland, Oregon, to produce clean hydrogen and capture solid carbon.

In a fierce national competition to secure a slice of $7 billion in grant funding to advance “green” hydrogen projects, the Pacific Northwest, represented by Oregon and Washington, emerged as one of the seven winners, each receiving roughly $1 billion in Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs grant funding.
The findings, which were reported in Science Advances and JACS Au, suggest that hydrogen might be produced at a lower cost than is now attainable with commercially available catalysts.
