Germany’s network regulator BNetzA has conferred a 20-year regulatory exemption to the (e)LNG terminal within the Wilhelmshaven Green Energy Hub.
With a total capacity equating to 15 billion cubic meters (BCM) per year, the terminal’s contribution to the country’s and Europe’s supply security has been recognized in the regulator’s decision.
This step is significant for moving closer to contract finalization with terminal users and making the final investment decision later in the year, states Deutsche Grüngas- und Energieversorgung GmbH (DGGEV) CEO Raf Vermeyen.
Preliminary discussions and consultation phases with EU member states, the European Commission, and the national competition regulator BKartA have been completed by BNetzA. The exemption decision awaits approval and review by the European Commission.
Leveraging its strategic location in Wilhelmshaven, the DGGEV terminal uses Germany’s superior marine and market access. Close cooperation with Niedersachsen state-owned port developer NPorts and gas transmission system operator OGE reinforces DGGEV’s efforts.
The Wilhelmshaven Green Energy Hub is essential to TES’s initiative for Germany’s decarbonization and that of surrounding markets. It eases the import of conventional liquefied natural gas (LNG) and green hydrogen-based electric natural gas (e-NG).
