In a stride towards establishing Wilhelmshaven as the ‘Hydrogen Valley of Germany,’ Canadian renewable energy company World Energy GH2 has become the first North American member of the Port of Wilhelmshaven’s ENERGY HUB initiative.
The collaboration brings together over 40 green hydrogen industry-focused companies and key governmental players, creating a dynamic platform for advancing sustainable hydrogen projects.
World Energy GH2’s entry into the ENERGY HUB aligns with the project’s overarching goal of fostering green hydrogen initiatives. The company is a pivotal player in the development of Project Nujio’qonik, a commercial-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project situated on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. This project is poised to produce approximately 250,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, making it a major contributor to the burgeoning green hydrogen industry.
As Wilhelmshaven positions itself as a hub for green energy, the inclusion of World Energy GH2 represents a strategic move towards global collaboration. The ENERGY HUB Port of Wilhelmshaven aims to overcome challenges in the ramp-up of the green molecules market, attracting international attention and fostering innovative projects.
World Energy GH2’s Project Nujio’qonik has achieved significant milestones, including the completion of the Pre-FEED phase in July 2023 and the subsequent approval of Crown land application by the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The project, with its base at the Port of Stephenville, is on track to become one of the world’s first providers of commercial-scale green hydrogen.
The growth of the ENERGY HUB Port of Wilhelmshaven from its inception with 16 private companies to over 40 in three years signals a positive trajectory.
