Wood is working alongside Centrica Storage to assess the feasibility of transforming the Easington gas processing terminal into a low-carbon production hub. This initiative, carried out in partnership with Equinor, aims to deliver hydrogen to the Humber region, contributing to Centrica’s net-zero target by 2045 and the UK’s overall decarbonization goals.
Located in East Yorkshire, the Easington low-carbon hub will be integrated with Centrica’s Rough field redevelopment and the Easington Terminal’s hydrogen fuel switching project. Wood’s involvement in parallel studies will evaluate various development scenarios, considering the establishment of green and blue hydrogen production facilities and their associated offsites and utilities.
Dan Carter, President of Decarbonisation at Wood, emphasized the company’s commitment to enabling clients’ decarbonization efforts and achieving net-zero through sustainable design. The creation of the Easington hub will provide secure low-carbon energy to the region, supporting the broader energy transition in the UK.
Martin Scargill, Centrica Storage Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm for the continued collaboration with Wood. Together, they aim to establish over 1 GW of green and blue low-carbon hydrogen at the Easington site, building upon the co-operative agreement with Equinor. Wood’s extensive experience in the hydrogen sector will play a critical role in driving the project forward.
