MHI Vestas installs first V164 9.5 MW turbine at Kincardine floating OWF

MHI Vestas has installed the first V164 9.5 MW turbine, the most powerful turbine used for a floating wind project, at the Kincardine floating offshore wind farm.

The first V164-9.5 MW turbine was installed on the Principle Power WindFloat platform, the first of the five units to be installed on the Kincardine project.

This advance in nameplate turbine capacity is a continuation of MHI Vestas’ floating wind capability, including the recent installation of WindFloat Atlantic.

Kincardine, which is being developed by the Cobra Group, is expected to be the largest floating wind farm in the world by nameplate capacity.

The five units of the project will be located approximately 15 kilometers off the coast of Kincardineshire, at water depths ranging from 60 meters to 80 meters.
