Phoenix Tankers and MOL Group have signed a contract with Namura Shipbuilding for the construction of two VLGCs to transport LPG and ammonia.
The vessels that will run on LPG are scheduled to be delivered in succession after 2023 as part of a technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding.
In comparison to fuel oil, LPG can cut CO2 emissions by around 20% and SOx, PM, and other pollutants by about 90%.
“We’re still on our way to becoming a low-carbon society,” MOL said.
