The Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITE) has approved – and published on its website – the list of projects eligible for funding put out to tender last March: this is 50 million euros allocated from the M2C2 3.5 investment of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, of which 20 million euros are for projects by public research organizations (institutions and universities) and 30 million euros for research projects developed by companies (another 110 million allocated by the PNRR for the same expenditure chapter was allocated to ENEA through a special program agreement).

As for the call reserved for public institutions, there are 7 projects eligible for funding:

  • the MECCA project of the University of Messina with 3 million euros
  • the NoMaH project of the University of Calabria; 3.2 million euros
  • the PROMETH2eus project from the University of Genoa; 3.5 million euros
  • the ART-2-HYDROGEN project of the University of Parma; approximately 2.1 million euros
  • the TIPIC project of La Sapienza University of Rome; 2.8 million euros
  • the ECOSTORE-H2 project of the University of Eastern Piedmont; 3.9 million euros
  • the PERMANENT project of the Politecnico di Milano; 3.4 million euros.

As many as 15 projects, on the other hand, are eligible for funding through the second call, the one reserved for companies, which allocated a total of 30 million euros.

The resources will be divided among:

  • Enapter (Dry-cathode optimization and industrialization for AEM electrolyzers); 984,000 euros
  • Sapio (HyPER Mantua); 1.7 million euros
  • GAP Solutions (MH2 – Material Handler – H2 fuel cell powertrain); 2.4 million euros
  • Techfem (SMARTHYDRO GRID); 2.5 million euros
  • Graded (GRETHA); 2.6 million euros
  • Distretto Tecnologico Aerospaziale Scarl (Development of zero-emission propulsion architectures for general aviation); 2.5 million euros
  • Eni (Innovative intEgrated Process for the intensified pRoduction of eGas from Green Hydrogen – IPEReGas); 1.7 million euros
  • Archimede Srl Società di Ingegneria (Development of innovative eco-sustainable process for the treatment of olive vegetation water and olive mill wastewater, with final valorization of the organic content to advanced biofuel); 2.2 million euros
  • ECOS (Development and optimization of renewable source systems for the production of hydrogen and its application in internal combustion engines for sustainable mobility); 2.3 million euros
  • Esea Automation (Innovative Solutions for Hydrogen Reservoirs (SIDRO) ); 2 million euros
  • Hyter (Realization of an above MW, innovative and scalable Electrolyzer for the production of clean green hydrogen – SIRIUS); 2.1 million euros
  • GVS (MAINE – Innovative Materials for Electrolyzers); 1.3 million euros
  • Ansaldo Green Tech (New Electrodes and Membranes for Industrial Scale Electrolyzers: NEMESI); 2.6 million euros
  • Turboden (Study, development and industrial validation of an innovative high-temperature and high-pressure (300°C – 50 bar) alkaline electrolyzer for hardto-abate applications in combination with thermal recoveries. Acronym: AWEHTP); €890,000
  • aizoOn Consulting (HEHS: High Efficency Hydrogen Storage): in this case the request was 2.6 million euros, but MITE writes that the project is “partially fundable,” so-evidently-not for the full amount.
