A term sheet for the first phase of green ammonia offtake from Oman has been signed by the ACME group, Scatec, and Yara International.
Oman is well-positioned to produce green ammonia for export to Europe and Asia, which are setting the pace in lowering CO2 emissions, and it has excellent conditions for renewable energy.
The green ammonia project in Oman is already evolving thanks to ACME and Scatec. The joint venture intends to construct a cutting-edge facility. The market for green ammonia, which can be used to reduce carbon emissions in other industries, is expanding thanks to Yara’s leadership in global ammonia production, logistics, and trade.
In the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, ACME and Scatec will start building the first phase of the project over 12 km2 of land in order to produce 100,000 metric tonnes of green ammonia annually. The project is anticipated to produce up to 1.1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually once it has reached its full development.
The main terms for the offtake of 100,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia in the first phase, as well as any potential future offtake from the project’s second phase as it develops, have been agreed upon by the parties. The first green ammonia project for the partners in Oman will be made possible by this groundbreaking agreement. The production of green fertilizer and the decarbonization of other industries, such as shipping, power, and the steel industry, will both benefit from Yara’s supply of green ammonia.
Through Power-to-X solutions like the production of green hydrogen, ammonia, and other essential feedstocks powered by renewable energy, it is becoming more and more necessary to accelerate the decarbonization of difficult-to-abate industries.
