Bord na Móna announced this week that its Cloncreen Wind Farm in Edenderry was commencing operations, and suggested that it was also moving forward with a number of other prospective renewable energy projects in the region.
These include the installation of a pilot hydrogen plant within its existing Mountlucas Wind Farm in Offaly.
Bord na Móna Powergen Limited submitted a planning application for a 2MW pilot-scale Hydrogen Electrolysis Plant in Mountlucas at the end of July.
The facility would consist of three high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks, one hydrogen compression system, one generator, two substation or transformer structures, and an underground cable connection to the closest wind turbine.
The public has until September 1 to submit comments on the planning application, and the Offaly County Council is scheduled to determine whether or not to approve it by September 22.
Bord na Móna stated that, in addition to the Cloncreen Wind Farm, three further renewable energy projects are currently “in construction and pre-construction.”
The Derrinlough Wind Farm near Cloghan, Timahoe Solar Farm in Kildare, and a second phase of the Oweninny Wind Farm in Mayo were among them.
The company’s Cil na Móna Renewable Energy Gas Facility near Portlaoise and its Battery Storage Project in Cloncreen have both been granted planning approval.
Additionally, nine additional projects are in the pre-planning phase.
