Constellation Resources Limited has signed a research agreement with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to explore natural hydrogen in Western Australia.
This collaboration aims to advance prospectivity studies for natural hydrogen and helium, focusing on the company’s Edmund Collier and Yerrida Projects, which encompass 56,000 km².
The partnership is partially funded by CSIRO’s Kick-Start Program, which supports innovative Australian start-ups and small to medium enterprises. Initial activities will involve CSIRO researchers evaluating multiple datasets, including satellite imagery and remote sensing, to identify potential gas seepages at the surface within Constellation’s Natural Hydrogen Projects. The results will inform the company’s planned soil gas sampling programs set to begin in early 2025, contingent upon land access clearances.
The research will culminate in a prospectivity model that maps areas of interest for natural hydrogen and helium, guiding future steps for the Natural Hydrogen Projects. CSIRO is at the forefront of research into natural hydrogen systems, driving innovations for geological hydrogen exploration through its Natural Hydrogen Roadmap, which aims to provide a framework for developing a hydrogen industry in Australia.
In addition to this agreement, Constellation has been awarded a grant from the State Government under the Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS) to drill prospective targets at its Orpheus Project in the Fraser Range. This drilling program will test promising nickel, copper, and gold targets identified through ultrafine soil sampling techniques and is expected to be completed by mid-December.
The agreement with CSIRO and the EIS grant signify strategic advancements for Constellation Resources as it seeks to enhance its capabilities in natural hydrogen exploration and expand its resource portfolio in Western Australia.
