Mitsui O.S.K. Lines launches ‘Hanaria,’ a novel hybrid passenger ship propelled by hydrogen and biodiesel in Kitakyushu. Hongawara Ship Yard built the ship for MOL Group’s MOTENA-Sea company, with investments from MOL Techno-Trade. Hanaria is Japan’s pioneering passenger ship with a choice of propulsion energy sources. These include hydrogen fuel cells, lithium-ion batteries, and biodiesel fuel. Using these clean energy alternatives results in a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction between 53% and 100% compared to similar fossil-fueled vessels.
