MOL Group has partnered with Plug Power to construct one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen production facilities at MOL’s Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta, Hungary. Green hydrogen will reduce the Danube Refinery’s carbon footprint and enable emission-free mobility in the long run. MOL’s €22 million facility, which will use a 10-megawatt (MW) electrolysis unit from Plug Power, will be able to produce approximately 1,600 tons of clean, carbon-neutral, green hydrogen annually, removing up to 25,000 tons of CO2 by displacing the current natural gas-based production process. Because this process accounts for one-sixth of MOL Group’s carbon dioxide emissions, this investment supports…

The demolition of the former SGN Commercial Services gas holder site in Inverness has begun, according to Getech, a geoenergy and green hydrogen company. SGN is responsible for the demolition and clearance of the site, which is expected to take 12 weeks. Getech will begin the development of its planned green hydrogen facilities after this work is completed, pending necessary approvals. At the same time, Getech is working on the engineering design for the green hydrogen production, storage, and dispensing facilities in Inverness, which it plans to expand into a regional Highlands hydrogen network. Dr. Jonathan Copus, Getech’s Chief Executive…

A pioneering project announced by Britain’s largest gas network companies will focus on the role hydrogen can play in helping London become net zero carbon by 2030. Cadent, SGN, and National Grid Gas Transmission will collaborate to create a hydrogen vision for the capital, outlining the potential benefits and opportunities for London and the United Kingdom. These goals include lowering emissions, creating jobs and skills, increasing future energy independence, and providing more comfort to Londoners, particularly the most vulnerable. The infrastructure companies will collaborate to produce a feasibility study for the transition of London’s gas network to hydrogen. They are…

The Greene Waste to Energy SME, the Technological Institute of Energy (ITE), and the Valencian Community Energy Cluster (CECV) are working on an innovative project that will combine two hot topics in the energy sector: green hydrogen generation and the circular economy. The project is based on the production of hydrogen using gasification techniques from waste rejection mixtures that end up in landfills, as well as simulation models for optimizing the process. SIGEN2H2 is an ambitious project because the use of this waste implies a circular economy and production routines. SIGEN2H2’s main goal is to find the best methods for…

A deal has been signed on April 26 with the goal to look into the possibility of establishing Canada’s “first” bright green hydrogen facility. With a $1.2 billion investment, the facility could produce up to 1 million tonnes of hydrogen, which would be a significant step forward for Canada’s hydrogen economy. Fort Nelson First Nation and Hydrogen Naturally are working on a project that will incorporate natural air carbon capture and storage to reduce the project’s overall carbon footprint. Harvest residuals and residual fibre that are not currently used for high-value solid wood products will be used to generate hydrogen…

In addition to Thailand’s large-scale hydrogen and ammonia supply chains, Jera has signed an initial agreement with Thai power producer Egco to collaborate on the development of an LNG supply chain. Jera expects LNG demand in Thailand to grow further. Backup power from gas-fired power plants is likely to become more important as the country shifts to renewable outputs that are more dependent on weather conditions. Using hydrogen and ammonia as fuel will significantly support the country’s carbon-neutral approach. A 50 percent stake in Tepdia Generating gives Jera a 12.5% stake in Egco. Both Kyushu Electric Power and Mitsubishi, a…
