Over the next eight years, China’s fuel cell vehicle output will soar. By 2030, China is expected to sell more than two million fuel cell vehicles, a 200-fold increase from current levels. Fuel cell vehicles, one of the three new energy car kinds made in China, use hydrogen energy to power their own onboard fuel cells. When the National Development and Reform Commission released a plan on the development of hydrogen energy for the years 2021–2035 in March 2022, it was the first time that hydrogen energy was positioned as an essential component of the future national energy system and…
Hydrogen Europe has sent a letter to Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, expressing concern over provisions of the future Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) legislation that are detrimental to the development of a leading hydrogen market in Europe. Hydrogen Europe brought up Article 27.3 of RED II, the Delegated Act (DA), which specifies the requirements for the production of renewable hydrogen. The letter claims that the DA, as written, will undermine the EU’s efforts to advance green hydrogen and that its regulations are “disproportionate,” leading to “European renewable hydrogen that is insufficient for the industry…
An ammonia project on the US Gulf Coast is being funded by JERA and Uniper with an eye toward exports to Germany.
Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH has created its emission-free high-tech invention HyFrame S36 for the Dortmund-based Group WILO SE. There have been a total of three orders fulfilled at this point. Wilo’s planned H2Powerplant will make place for additional renewable energy thanks to the use of the modular and adaptable HyFrame S36 technologies. The new H2Powerplant incorporates the hydrogen fuel cell solution HyFrame, which contributes to carbon-free generation of reusable energy and heat. Proton Motor also provides engineering expertise to help bring all three systems online. HyShelter, a portable Proton Motor container power plant, was built around three HyFrame S43…
ESB and dCarbonX have formed a joint venture to advance large-scale energy storage projects off the coast of Ireland. Since the second quarter of 2021, ESB has been collaborating with dCarbonX, a subsidiary of Snam, Europe’s leading gas storage supplier and gas infrastructure company, on the evaluation and development of green hydrogen underground storage in Irish offshore waters. The two companies, ESB and dCarbonX, are committed to actively exploring and developing opportunities to build large-scale storage capacity off the coast of Ireland. The three proposed decarbonization clusters that the joint venture will target are located to the east in Dublin’s…
At the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the green hydrogen project implemented by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai and Siemens Energy is a key project in bolstering the UAE’s efforts to become globally competitive in the green hydrogen market. The United Arab Emirates plans to take a 25 percent stake in the over USD 400 billion low carbon hydrogen business. The project’s implementation at the Solar Park will help achieve cost-effectiveness in creating green hydrogen, making it the first of its sort in the Middle East and North Africa. Electrolysis powered…
In West Lothian, on the five-mile long Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway heritage line, a former ScotRail train converted to run on hydrogen is currently undergoing testing. At the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow last November, a 40-year-old electric train that used to run in the city was put on static exhibit at Bo’ness. This train is now being utilized by the Scottish Hydrogen Train Project. ScotRail is looking into hydrogen as an alternative fuel for its future fleet, particularly for use on the Highland Line and other long-distance rural lines where electrification would be too expensive. Fueled by green…
Carlton Power has picked the Langage Energy Park as the location for its third hydrogen hub in the United Kingdom. The 10MW hydrogen hub project, the first of its type in Devon and Cornwall, will offer quick access to hydrogen fuel to nearby businesses, such as those in energy-intensive industries or with transportation fleets. Over the next 20 to 30 years, hydrogen is anticipated to significantly contribute to the UK’s attempts to achieve Net Zero CO2 emissions and to decarbonize the West Country. The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Regen, the south-west low-carbon energy organization, and South…
The extensive hyBit hydrogen research project at the University of Bremen has gotten over 30 million euros in funding. The project’s ultimate objective is to establish a new link between the heating, power, and transportation industries by offering a roadmap for the development of a green, hydrogen-based, sustainable economy in Bremen’s industrial port. The Arcelor Mittal steelworks serve as the project’s main entry point into the Bremen industrial port. Through cutting-edge scientific research and technological advancement, the steel industry is leading the transition from dirty fossil fuels like coal and natural gas to cleaner substitutes like hydrogen. The final result…
