Vattenfall is working on a hydrogen demonstration project called Hydrogen Turbine 1 (HT1) at the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm in Scotland, which involves installing hydrogen production equipment on a wind turbine. Marine Scotland has been tasked with conducting two pipeline route surveys as well as providing a screening opinion for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The developer applied for and was granted permission to conduct a pipeline route survey on a second route in August 2021. The HT1 project would install an extended transition piece platform housing hydrogen production equipment on an existing offshore wind farm turbine. A subsea flowline…

The Hydrogen Hub Act has been introduced in the New Mexico legislature. A slew of subsidies will be included in the bill, which will be introduced during the next legislative session in order to encourage the growth of a new industry. One of four hydrogen hubs planned under the $1 trillion infrastructure bill signed into law in November, New Mexico is expected to be a contender. Environmentalists, on the other hand, have raised concerns about hydrogen as a solution to some of the state’s most pressing economic and clean-energy issues. Because of the state’s plans, they say, the fossil-fuel industry…

After purchasing 5% of FusionOne, PowerTap Hydrogen has given an update on the company’s investment. An American company called FusionOne has developed proprietary, patent-pending technologies for the thermal processing of plastics and other carbon matter into clean “white” hydrogen and electricity, which is then used to produce clean hydrogen and electricity. It has been reported that FusionOne is on track to have the first HydroPlas Reactor operational in the first half of 2022, as planned and as announced in PowerTap’s April 2021 announcement, with plastic polymer feedstocks and several other carbon-based waste feedstocks, as feedstocks for the HydroPlas Reactor. Final…

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by KACST and CarbonMeta Technologies to work together on the conversion of plastic waste into hydrogen gas and high-value solid carbon materials through microwave catalysis.. Researchers at KACST and CarbonMeta will collaborate on advancing microwave catalysis processes developed by the University of Oxford. They will also work together to develop industrial-scale hydrogen and carbon extraction processes. “This collaboration will help advance a solution for eliminating plastic waste; instead of polluting our land and oceans, waste plastics could produce clean hydrogen fuel and value-added carbon products,” said Dr. Hassan Alayied, Director General of…

Qatar University’s National 3MT Competition awarded third place to researcher Muhammad Danyal Imam for his work on developing a long-term method for producing hydrogen from water, which was funded by the university’s Qatari partner. For him, it’s a game changer for hydrogen production and storage. At present, many ways to obtain hydrogen exist, but they have all proved to be prohibitively expensive. It is expensive and time-consuming to produce high-purity water for current water-splitting methods. The Middle East is the world’s most water-scarce region, home to 15 of the world’s 20 most water-strapped countries. As a result, freshwater is in…
