The Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) team has accomplished another ambitious goal, producing hydrogen using an electrolyser designed and built by the team. The electrolyser was developed by a small team from FFI’s manufacturing arm in Western Australia, producing industrial hydrogen for the first time this week. Several new electrolyser technologies have been developed by FFI and added to their electrolyser patent portfolio. FFI’s electrolyser technology selection will be influenced by the results of these projects, as FFI works toward its goal of producing 15 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030. FFI Chief Executive Officer Julie Shuttleworth said,…

An important project in Western Australia’s interest, the HyEnergy Project has been given lead agency status by the state’s government. As a nominated State agency under the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (DJTSSI), the official status allows for a higher level of coordination. It’s the next step after submitting a Project Definition Document to the department, in which key information about the project and its backers is outlined. An 8 GW HyEnergy Project scoping study is nearing completion, and Province Resources has teamed up with the leading French renewable Independent Power Producer Total Eren to complete the scoping…

Fossil coke consumption in the metallurgical process has been reduced thanks to a new biocarbon process developed by Eramet’s R&D teams. Manganese alloys with no CO2 emissions are the ultimate goal. Enova has just given Eramet Norway and its three manganese alloy plants in Porsgrunn, Sauda, and Kvinesdal a grant of approximately $6 million to test this technology in a pilot project. Carbon materials used in pyrometallurgical furnaces can be replaced with pre-treated biocarbon in laboratory tests (produced from biomass such as wood waste). This innovation’s next step is to conduct an industrial pilot to verify its technical viability. Tyssedal’s…

As part of the contract, pHYnix has entrusted Tresca Ingeniera with developing engineering plans and overseeing the plant’s start-up. Additionally, Tessa reveals that a pilot project for the injection of hydrogen into the natural gas network will be developed in accordance with the percentages currently permitted. For the plant’s construction, engineering encompasses everything from designing processes to selecting an electrolyzer, designing auxiliary systems, and constructing civil infrastructures. The Vitale site has important attributes for this project’s development. It’s 150 kilometers from Madrid in the heart of Castilla La Mancha, where there are good road and train connections for green hydrogen…

The Port of Duisburg is not only building the largest container terminal in the European hinterland, but it is also the first terminal with completely climate-neutral operations using hydrogen, intelligent networking, and the ability to supply energy to neighboring districts. Duisport, in collaboration with its international partners Cosco Shipping Logistics, Hupac SA, and the HTS Group, will build the trimodal Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) on the former Coal Island by 2023. As part of the “enerPort” project, duisport and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT analyzed forward-looking technologies and developed customized models for Europe’s largest hinterland…

RWE has signed a contract with Jacobs, a professional services firm, to investigate the production and supply of green hydrogen at the Pembroke Power Station site. The study will take four months to complete, with results expected in March 2022. It will look into the feasibility of first installing a 100 megawatt (MW) electrolyser to generate green hydrogen from local and grid-connected renewable energy. The project, which is linked to floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea, has the potential to scale up to several gigawatts (GW) and become one of the UK’s largest green hydrogen plants in development. Tom…

Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL) have completed preliminary studies to convert IPL’s Gibson Island ammonia-production facility to run on zero carbon green hydrogen rather than fossil fuel gas. FFI determined that the project is technically feasible based on the first phase of studies and issued IPL with a notice to proceed to the next phase. This is the next step in FFI’s ability to demonstrate that converting fossil fuel infrastructure is both technically and economically feasible. FFI and IPL will now negotiate an agreement to move this project forward to a Front End Engineering Design study.…

Hyzon Motors is improving waste collection through an exclusive supply contract with the Geesinknorba Group of the Netherlands. Hyzon, a leading global supplier of zero-emission, hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, announced today that it has agreed to make Geesinknorba its exclusive vendor for zero emission trucks. Geesinknorba already uses zero-emission vehicles throughout Europe, and Hyzon is expected to supply 300 trucks or more during the three-year contract. Annual demand is expected to rise as customers prioritize the decarbonization of waste collection, which will be aided by increased hydrogen availability across Europe. Following the COP 26 Summit in Glasgow, recent announcements…
