As part of the IPCEI Hy2Use project, NextChem was awarded a grant of €194 million to fund the construction of a waste-to-hydrogen facility. At full capacity, the waste-to-hydrogen facility that this project seeks to create might generate as much as 20,000 metric tons of hydrogen per year from a feedstock of 200,000 metric tons of non-recyclable solid trash. The grant money will be distributed as the facility is being built. The next actions will involve beginning project activities and acquiring the required permits to ensure the plant starts up in the first half of 2027 as per the funding. Hydrogen…

H2SEA is the result of the collaboration between Enersea, an offshore engineering expert, and HSM Offshore Energy, a significant Dutch construction yard. H2SEA has created a variety of green hydrogen production platforms ranging in size from 50 MW to 400 MW in response to the large-scale growth of offshore wind generation that the Dutch government has planned. By 2040, the Dutch government hopes to produce about 50 gigawatts of wind energy, and by 2050, it wants to produce about 70 gigawatts. The government intends to produce substantial amounts of hydrogen in the North Sea in addition to electricity. From 2030,…
The HYBRIT prototype facility in Lulea, Sweden, for the storage of fossil-free hydrogen gas is already operational. It was built by SSAB, LKAB, and Vattenfall. The facility for storing fossil-free hydrogen gas in rock caverns is the first of its kind in the entire globe. Now that it has begun, the two-year test period will go until 2024. The trial facility is 100 cubic meters in capacity, and a full-scale storage facility for 100,000 to 120,000 cubic meters of pressurized hydrogen gas may eventually be required. This indicates that it has a hydrogen gas storage capacity of up to 100…
A collaboration agreement for the delivery of green hydrogen was signed by the Chilean Ministry of Energy, the City-State of Hamburg’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation, and the Port Authority of the city. To implement its green hydrogen plan and decarbonization path, Germany will import a significant portion of this energy. Green hydrogen has been offered as a way to wean the world off the fossil fuels that contribute to climate change. Chile is a key ally of Germany because of its pioneering work in this field. Green hydrogen is recognized by both nations as a viable option for decarbonizing…
The European Commission has designated the Repsol-backed hydrogen project in Spain’s Escombreras Valley, which involves building a massive electrolyser, as “Strategic and of Common Interest in Europe.” The European Union Commission has given its blessing to the mobilization of 5.2 billion euros in public money from thirteen Member States to support renewable hydrogen value chain research, large-scale industrial deployment, and infrastructure building. IPCEI Hy2Use is an initiative with the goal of attracting private investment of further 7 billion Euros. As part of its efforts to encourage the decarbonization of the industries in the Valle de Escombreras, Repsol will push for…
The first annual Breakthrough Agenda Report, requested by 45 world leaders, delivers a progress report on the actions needed to deliver on the historic clean technology commitment by governments representing two-thirds of the global economy. The Breakthrough Agenda, as the commitment is known, aims to align countries’ actions and coordinate investment to scale up deployment and drive down costs across five key sectors including – power, road transport, steel, hydrogen and agriculture. Together, these sectors account for nearly 60% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions today and could deliver the bulk of the emission reductions needed by 2030 in a…
The United States and Denmark have just signed a partnership deal on green hydrogen, putting them at the forefront of the race to produce the green fuels of the future for automobiles, ships, and planes. In Washington, DC, representatives from both countries signed the “US-Denmark Green Hydrogen Alliance” establishing a formal relationship. The collaboration’s overarching goal is to hasten the introduction of environmentally friendly hydrogen. Both countries’ businesses can gain from this, as they will have a better chance to become pioneers in green hydrogen and Power-to-X. The “Inflation Reduction Act” is a legislative package that has considerably increased the…
Green hydrogen may be produced from low-quality water sources like saltwater and wastewater, and this is the goal of ANEMEL, a new project supported by the European Innovation Council. ANEMEL will spend about €5 million over the next four years to develop efficient electrolysers and speed up the design of prototypes. Of this sum, €2.96 million comes from the EIC. As a whole, the project will speed up the process of bringing the technology to market and using it to its full potential. Knowledge in membranes and electrolysers will be gathered by ANEMEL, with the end result being a prototype…
KKR and the Hero Group have put $450.0 million into the Indian IPP Hero Future Energies (HFE) to fund the company’s growth in renewable energy. The investment, spearheaded by KKR, will set up the IPP for expansion across multiple technologies by 2025, including solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen. The IPP, which began operations in 2012, has a presence in India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Singapore and operates a portfolio of 1.6 GW of solar and wind projects. Ukraine and the United Kingdom are also home to HFE offices.
Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) are a potential new market for Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen’s air-independent non-flow-through hydrogen fuel cells. The U.S. Office of Naval Research has supported Infinity’s research and development of market-ready technology for this sector for a number of years. Taking this action is the natural next step toward making a marketable product. UUVs are not only utilized by the military, but also in a wide variety of commercial fields, including oil and gas exploration, underwater infrastructure inspection (cables, pipelines, etc.), scientific study, and underwater salvage. The wreck of Robert Shackelton’s Endurance, which went down in the…
