Emerson has become a member of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (ECHA). Hydrogen’s share of the energy mix in Europe is currently less than 2%, but has the potential to rise to 10-23% by 2050, according the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. In joining the ECHA, Emerson will be at the forefront of hydrogen developments in Europe, thereby actively supporting the goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, as outlined in the European Union’s European Green Deal. The ECHA was established by the European Commission in March 2020 as part of its new industrial strategy for Europe. Its aim…

Chile and Port of Rotterdam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop green hydrogen. This is the first agreement on hydrogen as a fuel and feedstock signed by the Ministry of Energy with a European port. The agreement is considered to be of national importance in both the Netherlands and Chile. Minister Juan Carlos Jobet, of the Ministry of Energy of Chile, together with Allard Castelein, CEO of Europe’s largest port, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on green hydrogen via video conference. The minister emphasized that the aim of the MoU is part of a plan to…
Italgas has co-signed the open letter sent to the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, for the recognition of the strategic role of blending hydrogen into the existing gas networks, in order to achieve the decarbonization targets and the EU Hydrogen Strategy. The initiative was joined by around 70 European companies in the gas sector, including GD4S, the main association of continental DSOs, chaired by Italgas CEO Paolo Gallo. Among the addressees of the letter, in addition to vice-president Timmermans, are commissioners Kadri Simson (Energy), Thierry Breton (Internal Market) and Virginijus Sinkevicius (Environment, Oceans and Fisheries). The letter…
Suncor and Svante have signed an equity financing agreement which provides Svante with the additional growth capital to accelerate the commercialization of its second generation CO2 capture technology in North America for the decarbonization of industrial emissions and hydrogen production. Combined, Suncor and a number of family office investors have invested $25 million of equity financing, bringing the total proceeds raised under Svante’s Series D financing to $100 million, up from $75 million announced in February, 2021, and completing the largest single private investment into point source carbon capture technology globally to date. This final closing of the Series D…
BOEM has issued the FEIS for Vineyard Wind 1.
Johnson Matthey and Sibanye-Stillwater have formed a partnership to drive decarbonization.
Haldor Topsoe and Aquamarine have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose of building a green ammonia facility based on SOEC electrolysis. Aquamarine is developing a large-scale green ammonia facility to be constructed in multiple stages. In the first stage of the project, the proposed facility will use Topsoe’s proprietary solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC) to produce green hydrogen from 100 megawatt of renewable electricity. The hydrogen will be further processed into 300 ton/day of green ammonia, also using Topsoe technology. The produced ammonia can be used as a green marine fuel or as fertilizer. Aquamarine will develop…
Black & Veatch will undertake feasibility studies for the development of Enegix Energy’s Base One hydrogen facility, in Ceará, Brazil. Enegix Energy’s Base One will produce more than 600 million kilograms of green hydrogen annually. The new-build electrolysis facility will be powered entirely by renewable energy, initially 3.4 gigawatts of solar and onshore wind. Ceará’s potential for renewable energy generation, coupled with access to a strategic deep-sea port to facilitate the export of hydrogen, was key to the choice of the scoped 500-hectare site for the US$ 5.4 billion investment. Enegix Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with…
With expectations rising for more than $10 trillion of investments in hydrogen infrastructure by 2025, clean-burning, energy-dense hydrogen will be a critical element in decarbonizing the world’s energy systems, supply chains and heavy industries, finds ‘Hydrogen 2021: The Path to Net Zero Becomes Clearer’, a new eBook from Black & Veatch. Based on the expertise and insights of Black & Veatch’s market, technology and infrastructure experts, the eBook explores the need to develop hydrogen infrastructure to help accelerate global carbon emissions reductions in the current decade. “While renewable energy, including battery energy storage, are playing a vital role in achieving…
National Grid is exploring the development of a UK hydrogen ‘backbone’, which aims to join together industrial clusters around the country, potentially creating a 2000km hydrogen network for the UK by around 2030. Repurposing around 25% of the current gas transmission pipelines, Project Union will build on the government’s ten-point plan to invest more than £1 billion to unlock the potential of hydrogen and support the establishment of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in four industrial clusters. National Grid anticipates the backbone could carry at least a quarter of the current gas demand in Great Britain, and provide vital…
