Hawaiian Electric has submitted eight contracts for new grid-scale renewable energy and storage projects on Oahu and Maui to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for review and approval. The six projects on Oahu and two on Maui are part of the largest renewable energy procurement ever for Hawaii. If approved and completed, the combined projects are expected to, on average, lower electric bills by about $1 a month on Oahu and Maui. Australian Renewable Energy Agency has secured new long term funding from the Australian Government that will secure its future beyond 2022. The Prime Minister and Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction announced a total funding package of $1.62 billion for ARENA including guaranteed baseline funding of $1.43 billion over the next ten years. Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives’ (IEA) subsidiary company, White Construction, has been awarded an EPC wind contract in excess of $100 million in the state of Indiana. The award is for the construction of a 302 MW wind farm in Northern Indiana. Construction began in August, 2020 and is expected to be completed in November 2021. Once complete, the wind farm will have the capacity to power more than 83,000 homes with clean electricity. Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) has put into operation a new test bench in Bremerhaven in the scope of the Hil-GridCoP project. This was done in cooperation with the Lord Mayor of the City of Bremerhaven, Melf Grantz, Timo Haase from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), and the project partners Vestas Nacelles Deutschland GmbH and Nordex Energy GmbH. Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) and Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG) have signed an agreement for solar power to be implemented at the Singapore LNG Terminal on Jurong Island. Under the agreement, Total Solar DG will finance, build and operate a 600 kilowatts peak (kWp) rooftop solar power system, which will be installed on the rooftops of several buildings at the Terminal. French tidal energy developer HydroQuest is joining the Ocean Energy Europe board of directors as a lead partner. Floating PV, a solar park built on Sibelco’s ‘Schansheide’ sand quarry on the border of the Antwerp municipalities of Mol and Dessel in Belgium, has been completed. Flemish Minister of Energy Zuhal Demir installed the last solar panel of Floating PV in Flanders. The installation consists of 17,250 solar panels and will produce 7 Gigawatt hours (GWh) per year. This amount of electricity corresponds to the annual consumption of 2,000 households. Sibelco will use the maximum amount of electricity at its local operations to produce a high-quality silica sand.
