Wintershall Dea, Europe’s largest independent gas and oil producer, is developing a significant new project in Germany to produce clean hydrogen and store carbon dioxide underground in the North Sea. The rationale is that business and homes continue to want a flexible and reliable energy supply while also reducing CO2 emissions. And these objectives must be accomplished in a way that reinforces Europe’s energy security, regardless of global dynamics. Wintershall Dea’s BlueHyNow project will be created in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on the German North Sea coast. Wilhelmshaven already has a robust, networked infrastructure in place: two close landing ports for Norwegian…
Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has obtained a purchase order for an alkaline electrolyser to produce hydrogen for the manufacturing of oleochemicals from an unknown Indian refinery. Nel Hydrogen US has been awarded a contract to supply an alkaline electrolysis hydrogen production unit to a market leader in palm oil processing and oleochemical manufacture. Oleochemicals are utilized in a wide variety of products and sectors, including metalworking lubricants, plastics, rubber, and paper manufacturing additives, automobile lubricants, greases, and fuel additives, and personal care products such as soaps, lotions, cosmetics, and deodorants. “This project represents an opportunity…
A group from the URJC has developed materials that allow working at temperatures compatible with solar thermal power plants, which, in addition to ensuring compatibility with the installations in terms of thermal shock resistance requirements, reduces the costs associated with the process. Thermochemical cycles driven by solar thermal energy can be used to generate green hydrogen: a solid material is able to be reduced at high temperature -releasing oxygen- and reoxidized when in contact with water vapor, recovering its initial structure and producing hydrogen. This process has the great advantage of obtaining hydrogen and oxygen separately, using only water as…
Caring for the environment is one of the reasons why citizens use the bus, to consume less energy and thus generate less CO2 into the atmosphere. If we add to this the fact that the transports used are eco friendly, the benefit is absolute. More and more new gasoline variables are being used to drive a vehicle, such as modern electric buses. Well, Aucorsa has wanted to go one step further in environmental care. The municipal public transport company of Cordoba, Aucorsa, has just bought and put out to tender its first bus powered by hydrogen, the so-called fuel of…
Latin America can become a world power in low-cost hydrogen production as a clean fuel to replace fossil fuels, said Alfonso Blanco, executive secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade). During a conference held in Quito, where Olade’s headquarters are located, the Uruguayan Blanco pointed to the production of green hydrogen as one of the great opportunities in the region. The Olade leader affirmed that Latin America has “great storage capacity” and the ability to produce it at a much lower price than other regions of the world. “It is a great opportunity for our region,” he remarked. Blanco…
The German group, which last year had revenues of 78.7 billion euros, will enter the electrolysis hydrogen market, planning to invest almost 500 million euros in this new area by 2030. At the press conference to present the results of 2021, the multinational company that is also present in Portugal also announced that it will invest “nearly 500 million euros” in this new area by the end of the decade, half during the market launch, estimated in 2025. Last year, Bosch group sales rose 10.1% year-on-year to 78.7 billion euros. “Significant growth in sales and results, despite a difficult environment,”…
Hyvia, a 50/50 joint venture between Renault and US-based Plug Power recently opened a new production facility in Flins (FR) to build fuel cells and peripherals for hydrogen mobility. These are needed for the hydrogen-powered vans that Renault plans to roll out before the end of the year. But possibly even more interesting is the starting point Hyvia is using here. In fact, Hyvia not only wants to power vans with hydrogen. It also offers entrepreneurs the possibility of generating this gas themselves. In this way, they can operate independently of the grid. In itself, this idea is far from…
EnergyNews.biz is proud to announce that it will be a media partner at the upcoming Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (CGHE2022). This is the premier green hydrogen conference and exhibition in Europe, and it will be held at the Meliá Avenida América in Madrid on July 06–07, 2022. Aside from that, it functions as a premier business networking platform, allowing you to meet with prospective partners and close the most lucrative business deals conceivable. The following are some of the highlights of the CGHE2022 conference: In conjunction with Wind Asset Management Europe and Solar Energy Future Europe 2022, the event…
Eneco joins the green hydrogen consortium NortH2 as an investment partner. Green hydrogen is an important step in the implementation of Eneco’s One Planet Plan, which envisages being climate neutral by 2035, for Eneco and its customers. Part of the plan is to phase out natural gas at customers’ premises and in electricity and heat production. In addition to NortH2, Eneco plans to further invest in green hydrogen. With NortH2 hydrogen can be made available on a large scale in the Netherlands in the future. Eneco sees ample opportunities in NortH2 to make its production and supply of industrial customers…
The location formerly occupied by the coal-fired Nanticoke power station could be developed into a new hydrogen production facility. Atura Power and Imperial Oil have announced plans to investigate the site’s suitability for such a project. This spring, the study is planned to begin. It will concentrate on the business and technical elements of hydrogen facility development. Atura is a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, which owns the old coal-fired power plant’s property. “We realize the importance of leadership, inventiveness, and teamwork in assisting Canada in achieving its goal of net zero emissions by 2050,” said Jody Grant, manager of…
