Iberdrola will inaugurate in May the green hydrogen plant in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), the largest for industrial use in Europe. This new initiative of the electricity company, which has had an investment of 150 million euros, aims to avoid emissions of 48,000 tCO2 per year and take a further step in its energy transition. In addition, this project will supply the ammonia factory that Fertiberia has in the town. The project of the electricity company presided by José Ignacio Sánchez Galán will be integrated by a 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant, a lithium-ion battery system with a storage capacity of…

As fleets strive for a carbon-free future, a quiet battle for the industry’s future is being conducted between BEVs and FCEVs. Amazon and UPS officials stated last year that they envision a role for hydrogen FCEVs in their fleets, citing the cars’ less weight, faster charging, and longer range compared to BEVs. However, both companies believe hydrogen is a longer-term solution than BEVs. The Central Valley Express project represents an opportunity to “address current commercialization barriers and accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty mobility solutions in the goods movement market,” according to an announcement from Rob Del Core, general manager…

The Ocean Conservancy and its colleagues at UMAS released a new paper titled “Future Maritime Fuels in the United States of America – the Options and Potential Pathways.” The study addresses which alternative shipping fuels are now available and how the United States might convert to them. The research comes on the heels of another released earlier this week that details the magnitude of emissions and the possibility for decarbonizing the US-flagged fleet. To escape the most grave implications of climate change, the global economy must swiftly decarbonize. Electrification and renewable energy sources are frequently the best course of action.…
