Woodside has secured property in Tasmania for its projected H2TAS hydrogen plant. The land is a largely cleared plot located in the Austrak Business Park (Long Reach) in northern Tasmania’s Bell Bay region. Woodside and Austrak have reached an agreement on an exclusive long-term leasing option. The H2TAS project consists of approximately 1.7 GW of electrolysis for the generation of hydrogen and ammonia, which will be completed in phases. In the first phase, a 300 MW capacity would be used to produce 200k tonnes of ammonia per year. It anticipates making a final investment decision in 2023, with construction and…
GAUSSIN, a pioneer in clean and intelligent transport, presented the H2 RACING TRUCK, the world’s most powerful hydrogen and electric racing truck. The GAUSSIN H2 RACING TRUCK® will debut at the 2022 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. The H2 RACING TRUCK® is designed to survive harsh situations and to demonstrate the performance and reliability of GAUSSIN’s hydrogen-electric motorization. The data obtained during the 2022 Dakar Rally will be used to further develop GAUSSIN’s road truck range. “On January 12 in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, the Dakar organization presented its “Dakar Future” energy transition program, which aims to make the Dakar 100% “green”…
Monetizing Gas Africa (MGA) and US clean energy innovation firm 8 Rivers Capital, LLC (8 Rivers), have signed an initial agreement to collaborate on projects to deploy innovative clean technology in South Africa based on the 8 Rivers’ technology suite for providing clean, efficient, and low-cost carbon-free hydrogen, power, and fuels. 8 Rivers and MGA will investigate the possibility of decarbonizing South Africa’s LNG imports, in which the CO2 emitted by LNG is fully captured and disposed of, in order to assist South Africa in further mitigating its over-reliance on emitting coal-fired power and assisting the country in meeting its…
Ballard Power Systems has acquired Arcola Energy, a systems engineering company based in the United Kingdom that specializes in hydrogen fuel cell powertrain and vehicle systems integration. Ballard bought 100% of Arcola for a total upfront and earn-out cash and equity compensation of up to US$40 million, subject to certain performance benchmarks being met. Arcola employs roughly 90 people in the United Kingdom and has over ten years of experience integrating Ballard fuel cell engines into powertrains and heavy-duty vehicles, including buses, garbage trucks, and trains. Arcola is one of the UK’s fastest growing hydrogen firms, partnering with some of…
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan proposed creating an international consortium to coordinate activities of major scientific institutions from the Organization of Turkic-speaking States member nations in the hydrogen energy business, Kazinform reported. Tokayev listed hydrogen energy as a priority. The Kazakh President noted that hydrogen energy is a new clean fuel. Kazakhstan, he claims, has the scientific potential and qualified personnel to develop a green hydrogen industrial cluster. On global warming, water and food security, and the efficient and equitable use of transborder water resources. Given the concerns, the Kazakh President declared that Kazakhstan is willing to build hydro-dams with…
Alstom, the top train manufacturer and maintenance provider in the United Kingdom, and Eversholt Rail, the biggest train owner and financier in the United Kingdom, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the UK’s first-ever brand-new hydrogen train fleet. The two firms have decided to collaborate, with Alstom exchanging technical and commercial knowledge essential to design, build, commission, and support a fleet of 10 three-car hydrogen multiple units (HMUs). Alstom will construct these in the United Kingdom. The new HMU fleet will be built on the most recent version of the Alstom Aventra platform, with definitive contracts…
In the next years, Europe will require 3,000 new LNG filling stations and 4,000 new hydrogen filling stations. In total, there are roughly 200 of these filling stations.
Namibia may be able to provide some of this in the future. The Netherlands and the African country committed to collaborate in this area during the Glasgow climate summit.
In mid-November, for the first time in Europe, an existing home will receive an individual connection to a local, underground hydrogen network. This will enable residents to heat their homes and tap water entirely with hydrogen. Hydrogen is a promising alternative to natural gas, the supply and price of which are currently under pressure. The house is part of a replica 1970s housing block of the DreamHûs that stands on the grounds of fieldlab The Green Village (TGV) on the TU Delft Campus. Last summer, the partners of the H2@Home consortium signed several agreements for the project. The decisive factor…
