On behalf of the Australian Government, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has allocated $8.2 million in funding to Tesla Motors Australia (Tesla) to deploy residential battery and rooftop solar systems at 3000 properties owned by Housing across Adelaide. As part of South Australia’s Virtual Power Plant (SA VPP), Tesla will install 5 kW of roof solar and 13.5 kWh of Powerwall battery on each property at no cost to the tenant. Approximately 80 percent of the current household energy usage would be covered by the system. Together with 1100 systems already installed in the previous phase, Tesla will use…
EDF Renewables has pledged its trust into Hitachi ABB Power Grids to build four substations to connect three new wind farms near Ustka, Parnowo and Gorzyc in Poland. Hitachi ABB Power Grids will deliver three 110/20 kV power substations for three new wind power plants that it is building in Northern and Western Poland. The plants are near Ustka (28 MW), Parnowo (15 MW) and Gorzyca (24 MW). In addition to the three substations, Hitachi ABB Power Grids will also deliver a 110kV substation in Parnowo, which will be used by the distribution system operator. “What is important is that…
Van Oord’s heavy lift vessel Svanen has successfully installed the final foundation for the Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. A total of 72 monopiles were transported floating from Rostock, Germany, directly to the offshore site. The transition pieces were transported on barges from Aalborg, Denmark. Vattenfall awarded the transport and installation of the foundations for Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm to Van Oord. Van Oord’s fleet for this project consisted of 10 vessels, in order to carry out all works. To reduce the underwater noise a ‘double big bubble curtain’ was used during pile driving.…
Mitsubishi Power has started a new council named “Kobe/Kansai Hydrogen Utilization Council” with the intention of developing hydrogen utilization practices and establishing a hydrogen supply chain in the Kobe/Kansai area. Through its actions with the new Council, the company will continue supporting the change to a carbon-free, hydrogen-powered society by 2030.The companies involved are: Electric Power Development, ENEOS Corporation, Iwatani Corporation (Lead), The Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Kobe Steel, Marubeni Corporation (Lead), Mitsubishi Power, Obayashi Corporation, and Shell Japan Limited.
GE Research has been granted two projects through ARPA-E’s ASCEND and REEACH programs, which are part of $33 million in funding the agency announced to support 17 various projects to develop hybrid electric aviation systems technology. GE Research will design and develop a carbon-neutral, hybrid electric propulsion system capable of powering a commercial narrow body aircraft under the eFLITES and FLyCLEEN projects, respectively. The first is a $2.5 million REEACH project focused on developing a multi-megawatt power generation system that turns a carbon neutral biofuel into electricity called FLyCLEEN (FueL CelL Embedded ENgine). The second is a $2.3 million ASCEND…
GE Renewable Energy has completed the construction and commissioning of 53 MW of Kirazli and 32 MW of Meryem wind farms in Turkey. These two wind farms are part of a larger order made a year ago by Turkerler and RT Enerjito to supply five wind farms. In total, the five onshore wind farms (Kirazli, Meryem, Sile, Pamukova and Mahmut Sevket) comprise forty-nine of GE’s 3 MW onshore wind turbines, with a total capacity of 158 MW to supply renewable energy to the area, powering an equivalent of 183,000 homes. The wind farm facility in Kirazli presented significant technical challenges, as…
Murra Warra II Wind Farm comprises 38 wind turbines with a capacity of 209MW. The wind farm is expected to provide over 400 full-time equivalent jobs during the two-year construction period, and ongoing employment opportunities during its operational lifetime. The direct economic stimulus provided by the first stage of Murra Warra Wind Farm during construction has been $4.4 million to the local and regional economy through spend on accommodation, retail items and services and this local stimulus is anticipated to be replicated by the Murra Warra II construction. A locally managed community fund for both projects will inject an additional…
GE Renewable Energy has won two 30 MW contracts to supply a total of 12 units of GE’s 5MW-158 Cypress wind turbines to support the construction of Quoc Vinh Soc Trang and Lac Hoa Soc Trang wind farms, located in the Mekong Delta, Southern Vietnam. PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation will provide full project engineering, procurement and construction services. The Cypress onshore wind platform facilitates substantial annual energy production (AEP) improvements, enhanced service reliability, improved logistics and site capacity, and ultimately more value for customers. The two-piece blade design allows improved transport options to boost logistics in order to minimize costs…
Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency closed the month of August with 174.36 megawatts released for commercial operation. Spread on 47% in thermoelectric plants and the other 53% in plants with wind and hydro generation. Throughout the year, the Agency’s inspection released 3,297.74 MW in 14 states in the country. Pernambuco thermal power plant stands out, with 50 MW of installed power. Another 10 MW of units will serve isolated communities in Amazonas.Despite Covid-19, ANEEL has normally kept up with the expansions of electricity supply in Brazil. For inspection agency uses technologies that allow the monitoring of works by satellite images.
