The Energy Ministry of the Biobío Region, Mauricio Henríquez, paid a visit to the Alena wind farm, developed by Mainstream, to review the progress of the project. Currently, the Alena project is progressing in the construction of the foundations that will support the 18 wind turbines that comprise it. The wind farm will produce 84 MW of energy, which is equivalent to lighting 120 thousand homes, and will avoid the emission of 114 thousand tons of CO2 per year. Alena is part of a list of 12 Mainstream renewable energy projects that the Government considers a priority to boost the…

Northern Reliability (NRI) has selected KORE Power’s battery systems for a project at Vermont Electric Power Company’s (VELCO) headquarters in Rutland, Vermont. The Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage Project will have 1.2 MWh of battery capacity to store electricity from a 500 kW solar array. VELCO would then use this energy instead of grid power during periods of high-priced, peak system demand to minimize electricity costs and improve grid stability. NRI will develop the project together with fellow Vermont renewable energy leader Catamount Solar of Randolph. “NRI has served the United States government and military, the scientific community, the utility…
The U.S. Energy Storage Association (ESA), the national trade association for the American energy storage industry, issued an expanded energy storage vision, 100×30: enabling a clean power transformation. Aware of trends in energy storage and renewable energy markets and extrapolated to ESA’s 2017 vision document (35×25: A Vision for Energy Storage), this white paper maps the industry’s roadmap to install 100 GW of new storage across the United States over the next decade. “The U.S. power sector is in the midst of transformation to a cleaner, more modern infrastructure. With the right policies and regulatory frameworks in place, we believe that…
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced the launch of its LV100-type T-series insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module for industrial uses. The LV100 package, which achieves high versatility and high current density, has been used widely in railway and electric power applications and now has been adapted for industrial uses. It is expected to help reduce the size and power loss of power converters, specifically inverters used for renewable energy applications such as photovoltaic and wind-power generation, and also high-capacity motor drives. Product Features 1)Common-outline LV100 package adapted and optimized for industrial usesThe LV100 package, used widely in railway and electric power applications,…
Nordex Group has received an order for AW132/3465 turbines from Brazil. For its new customer, TODA Energia do Brasil, the manufacturer will supply eight turbines for a 27.7 MW wind farm. The project is in the French developer Voltalia’s 2.4 GW Serra Branca wind and solar cluster in north-eastern Brazil. The order also includes the service of the turbines for 15 years. Construction will start in March 2021. The infrastructure work and operation will be carried out by Voltalia for TODA Energia do Brasil. The Nordex Group will install the eight turbines on 120-metre concrete towers produced at its local…
The Board of Mainstream Renewable Power has appointed of Mary Quaney as group chief executive officer. Mary Quaney joined Mainstream in 2009. She has been group chief financial officer since 2017 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2019. The appointment follows the resignation of Andy Kinsella, who has served as chief executive since 2016. “I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Mary Quaney to lead Mainstream through the next phase of our high-growth trajectory. Mary brings significant experience and a record of success that will be critical as we continue to build the company across the world…
Better Energy will develop, build and operate the solar plant located in Holstebro Municipality, while Heartland will become the owner of the plant. Approximately half of the new green energy produced by the solar plant has already been sold to the Heartland subsidiary BESTSELLER. This energy is equivalent to 100 percent of BESTSELLER’s global electricity consumption for owned and operated buildings. Apart from BESTSELLER, NORMAL and nemlig.com will also purchase new green power. “It is not only the size of the new solar plant that is groundbreaking, but it is also the fact that the solar plant will supply BESTSELLER, NORMAL…
Sunrun has partnered with GRID Alternatives, a national non-profit leader in making renewable energy technology and job training accessible to underserved communities, which will provide 100 percent free battery systems to low-income customers in wildfire-prone regions. Batteries will be financed through the California Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) Equity Resiliency Budget, enabling Sunrun and GRID Alternatives to provide zero-cost batteries to homeowners receiving them. GRID Alternatives will continue to work with community-based organizations and be responsible for outreach to potential clients. This opportunity is timely, as the rolling blackouts have brought thousands of Californians into darkness in the midst of a heatwave.…
JERA is planning to construct an offshore wind farm off Ishikari Bay, Hokkaido, Japan and has submitted its Planning Phase Environmental Impact Statement for the Ishikari Bay Offshore Wind Farm Construction Project1 to the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry. Ishikari Bay is suitable for the development of bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation for its favorable wind conditions, shallow seabed, and the spare capacity of the nearby power grid. The planned offshore wind power generation project will be at least 2.5km offshore from the cities of Ishikari and Otaru and include 65 wind turbines with a maximum generation capacity of…
GE Renewable Energy has started the construction of the largest wind turbine rotor test rig of its kind at LM Wind Power’s WMC Technology Center in Wieringerwerf, the Netherlands – located on the border of the IJsselmeer, approximately 70 kilometers north of Amsterdam. Under the three-year STRETCH initiative, a consortium comprising GE Renewable Energy, LM Wind Power and TNO was formed to develop this test rig, with partial support from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The rotor test rig will enable the strength and dynamic behavior of wind turbine rotors to be verified under the huge mechanical loads caused…
