In Lower Saxony’s Bremervoerde, the world’s first hydrogen filling station for passenger trains will be built starting in September. Representatives of the state and the companies involved met on site for a symbolic ceremony. An eighteen-month test phase for the first two trains was successfully completed at the end of February. The mobility project, which has attracted worldwide attention, is now entering its next phase. The gases and engineering company Linde will build and operate the hydrogen filling station near Bremervoerde station on behalf of the Lower Saxony Regional Transport Company (LNVG). Other project partners are the rail vehicle manufacturer…

C2 Energy Capital announced the completion of a one-megawatt solar power project for the Otsego Local School District located near Bowling Green, Ohio. The company financed, owns, and operates the project. The first clean energy project of its kind with the local Tontogany utility, C2 Energy Capital supported regional developer, Solar Power & Light (SP&L) who worked closely with the school board, the local utility, and community to deliver a high-quality solar project with no capital expense for the school district. The project is powered by advanced thin film modules from First Solar, Inc. which were designed and developed at the company’s research and…
This year‘s event will take place in a hybrid format, with a socially-distanced physical awards ceremony and live-stream to comply with the latest government guidelines. Nominations are open for 11 categories, with submissions welcome from all renewable energy technologies, from wind, hydro and solar to wave power, low-carbon heat and more. Categories this year include Best Innovation, Best Community Project and Outstanding Contribution. The awards ceremony on November 26 will be hosted by comedian Jo Caulfield. “Scotland’s renewable energy industry is playing a critical role in our fight against climate change.“The Scottish Green Energy Awards gives us an opportunity to…
Scottish civil engineering contractor RJ McLeod has been awarded the main contract to build the 103-turbine Viking Wind Farm, one of the largest contracts of this type ever awarded in Scotland. The appointment follows SSE Renewables’ decision last month to invest £580 million in the 443 megawatt (MW) wind farm project developed by the Viking Energy Wind Farm partnership. As part of its contract, RJ McLeod’s team will build the network of access tracks through the wind farm site as well as the new Sandwater road, construction compounds, and the bases and crane pads for the turbines. RJ McLeod will…
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind confirms that the final of three V164 8.4 MW turbines is now generating power to the Portuguese grid. The third and final V164-8.4 MW turbine installed on Principle Power’s semi-submersible WindFloat floating platform has now completed testing at the WindFloat Atlantic project site, and is generating clean, renewable wind power to the Portuguese grid. The three V164-8.4 MW turbines are the largest commercially-operating wind turbines installed offshore on floating platforms anywhere in the world. The project site is located 20 km off the coast of Viana do Castelo in Portugal at a sea depth of 100…
At the former Lenin shipyard in polish Gdansk the steel construction for another offshore substation in the Baltic Sea has started. The platform was ordered by wind farm operator Parkwind in coordination with 50Hertz. On this platform, the electricity generated by the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm located east of Rügen island, will be collected and transformed to the 220 kV level. From there, the electricity will flow through the Ostwind 2 submarine cables. After 95 kilometers, these reach the Lubmin substation at the Greifswald Bodden, where the electricity is integrated into 50Hertz’s extra high voltage grid. The contractor for…
WindFloat Atlantic is now fully operational and supplying clean energy to Portugal’s electrical grid. Following the connection of the last of the three platforms to the 20 m export cable connecting the wind farm to the substation at Viana do Castelo, Portugal, the construction of the wind farm is now complete. WindFloat Atlantic, which has a total installed capacity of 25 MW is the world’s first semi-submersible floating wind farm and will generate enough energy to supply the equivalent of 60,000 users per year, saving almost 1.1 million tons of CO2. Windplus has successfully installed and connected three platforms -…
Sonnedix, the global independent solar power producer (IPP), has boosted its operating capacity in Italy by 8.2 MW through the acquisition of two portfolios: a portfolio of 6 operating plants with a combined capacity of 5.2 MW was acquired from Silver Ridge Italia (Amaranto Group), and a portfolio of 3 operating plants with a combined capacity of 3 MW was acquired from Melfin (Melchioni Group). The operating plants benefit from the feed in tariff granted under the Italian Conto Energia Scheme. The 5.2 MW portfolio is comprised of 2 PV plants built on top of shelters in a parking lot…
In the first half of 2020, the amount of wind energy transmitted onshore by the transmission system operator TenneT from the North Sea rose to 11.51 terawatt-hours. This corresponds to an increase of 21.1 percent compared to the first half of 2019 (9.51 TWh). Power transmission from the North Sea accounts for a good 15.6 percent of total wind power generation in Germany, which reached 73.7 terawatt-hours in the first half of 2020. “The expansion and integration of offshore wind energy is of central importance for the European energy transition. With Borssele alpha and – from mid-August – Borssele beta,…
Duke Energy 200-megawatt alternating current Rambler Solar project in Tom Green County, Texas, has begun commercial operation. The Rambler Solar project is the second 200-MWac Texas solar facility that Duke Energy Renewables has brought online this year, bringing its total Texas solar portfolio to over 500 MWac in operation. In early July, the company announced the commercial operation of its Holstein Solar project in Nolan County. “We’re pleased to continue our expansion of solar energy resources in Texas, which is experiencing an increasing demand for power. The Rambler Solar project will bring significant economic benefit to the state and generate…
