The Nordex Group has started the construction of a factory for the production of concrete towers for its turbines on a 12-hectare site located in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. After completion in August, Nordex will be providing jobs for about 300 workers while creating an additional 200 jobs with suppliers of local components. “We are pleased to be setting up a further industrial nucleus in Motilla del Palancar with our tower-manufacturing facility. Vestas has secured a 48 MW order with Vietnamese developer, Phong Lieu Wind Power JSC for a wind project located in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam. In total, Vestas will supply, deliver, install and commission 12 V150-4.2 MW of wind turbines supplied in 4.0 MW operating mode. As with previous projects in the province, the Phong Lieu wind farm will leverage project management, and transport capabilities of Vestas to develop and deliver site-specific solutions in the area’s remote and complex mountainous terrain. Goldwind Australia has completed work on the 50-turbine Moorabool North section, while the 54-turbine Moorabool South section has also seen the first wind turbine installed recently. The largest photovoltaic park in Italy has been connected to the grid after just one year from the first construction step. The solar farm is based in Apulia, near Foggia. Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios has secured £380 million financing funds for the Kincardine offshore wind farm. Natixis, a french corporate and investment bank will act as sole green loan coordinator. The project includes the construction of a 50MW offshore wind farm, situated southeast of Aberdeen, Scotland, which will be the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm once completed. Capital Power has revealed it is moving forward with the Whitla Wind facility’s third phase (Whitla Wind 3), which will add 54 MW in late 2021. The Whitla Wind facility is located in Forty Mile County in south east Alberta. Capital Power has initiated the Whitla Wind 3 licensing process with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and anticipates filing its application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) this summer. New Wood Mackenzie research shows that the offshore wind industry in the USA is set to grow in strength over the next decade. As the sector is ramping up from near-zero today, it could produce as much as 25 GW in 2029, capturing nearly half of the US demand for new wind power installations. “While more than 9 GW of projects are already contracted or soon to be approved, and up to 6 GW more will be solicited through 2022, longer-term uncertainty could see total build this decade reach just 15 GW.”Max Cohen, principal analyst and author of Wood Mackenzie’s US…

Cleantech Solar has secured a US$75 million green loan from ING Bank, Singapore. This financing will support the funding required to deliver the company’s strategy of building over 500MW of solar power projects. According to the International Energy Authority, the demand for electricity in Southeast Asia is expected to see an average growth rate of 6% annually with renewable energy meeting just around 15% of the demand. This deal adds to ING’s robust portfolio of renewables transactions that have also achieved a number of “firsts” in the region.
