Cox Communications has chosen EDF Renewables North America to provide solar photovoltaics and battery energy storage services in support of Cox’s long-term financial and sustainability goals. EDF Renewables will develop and install an integrated 360 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic solar and 560 kW/1.360 kilowatt hour (kWh) on-site battery storage system at the San Diego corporate headquarters of Cox Communications. The combined carport and roof-top solar array is expected to offset over 374 tons of carbon annually, adding to Cox Enterprises’ more than 567.000 tons of CO2 offset as part of the Cox Conserves program since 2007. “Sustainability, and driving positive environmental…

Dominion Energy completed the installation of the two turbines, 12-megawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) pilot project 27 miles off Virginia Beach. The first offshore wind farm to be approved by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and installed in federal waters, and second constructed in the United States, was built safely and on schedule despite the worldwide impact from the coronavirus pandemic. The turbines will now undergo acceptance testing before being energized later this summer and producing enough clean, renewable energy, at peak output, to power 3,000 Virginia homes. Dominion Energy will apply the valuable permitting, design, installation,…
Keeping up with the meteoric increase of solar photovoltaics (PV) on customer rooftops is a challenge for utilities needing to manage the energy flow of those behind-the-meter resources. Go-Solar is a research initiative from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) that enables utilities to monitor, estimate, and operate millions of PV arrays through efficient communication with only a small number of devices, instead of needing to connect to every individual rooftop solar system. Co-funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) ENERGISE program and Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO), Go-Solar researchers have developed technologies for managing large-scale…
Vestas has secured a 76 MW order for Chitose wind farm and Noheji Mutsuwan wind farm in Japan’s Aomori prefecture, in collaboration with Tokyu Land Corporation and Japan Wind Development. Because the region’s prone to typhoons and earthquakes, comprehensive cooperation between all project partners was required when developing a turbine solution to optimize wind capture in the challenging wind and weather conditions at the sites. The order includes the supply and supervision of four V117-3.45 MW and six V105-3.45 MW turbines all supplied in 3.6 MW Power Optimized Mode at Chitose wind farm, as well as 11 V105-3.45 MW turbines in 3.6 MW…
Renewable Energy Systems has completed construction of the GA Solar 3 – Tanglewood Solar project, developed and owned by Origis Energy. The 57.5 MW solar project is one of the facilities under the Georgia Power Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) serving the utility’s customers participating in the Commercial and Industrial REDI (C&I REDI) program. The construction, which began in May 2019, employed over 250 laborers, operators and electricians at its peak construction periods. “RES is very pleased to have a part in delivering more clean energy to Georgia, and we are proud of our partnership with Origis Energy.” Tim Jordan,…
Vestas has secured an 84 MW order to supply, transport, install and commission a total of 20 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines for a wind project in Vietnam. Vestas was able to customize a solution with V150-4.2 MW turbines at a hub height of 145 meters to help optimize the production of wind energy for the project , working closely with the customer to understand their requirements and the site conditions. The order also includes a service agreement for 20 years of Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000), designed to maximize the site’s energy production. “Vestas is extremely excited about the current…
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is investing €43.5 million to fund the largest solar project in Andalusia and one of the most powerful in Spain. Despite the lockdown related to COVID-19, more than 85 percent of the construction plan was completed successfully by May 2020. This investment, supported by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), the main pillar of the Investment Plan for Europe, will contribute to Spain’s green recovery and will create approximately 350 jobs in the Andalusian transition region during the implementation phase. The Cabrera Solar project includes the construction and operation of four 50 MWp solar photovoltaic…
Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and Enso Energy are working together in a UK solar development joint venture. The partnership was formed with the goal of establishing one of the largest subsidy-free solar and battery storage portfolios in the UK that will deliver renewable energy to communities and businesses throughout the country. GIG and Enso have established an ambitious project pipeline currently under construction which represents an initial capacity of 1 GW. Initial projects are grid secured and are being submitted for planning approval. It involves initiatives across England and Wales, where the team is currently undertaking virtual community meetings…
Inovateus Solar has started construction on Logansport municipal utility’s first solar project after the city retired its over 120-year-old coal power plant. Financed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), the solar project will minimize carbon emissions from Logansport Municipal Utilities (LMU), help stabilize energy prices for LMU customers, and also host a bee and butterfly habitat that will support farming in the area. The 80-acre 16 megawatt (MW AC) solar installation will power the equivalent of about 3.700 homes. Financed by Alchemy Renewable Energy, the 30-year PPA allows LMU to buy the renewable solar generation at a fixed kilowatt-hour rate with…
Vestas has received a 28 MW repowering order from ecoJoule construct for the wind project Brest, located in Lower-Saxony in northern Germany, won in the tender for the Federal Network Agency. Five EnVentus platform V150-5.6 MW turbines, with concrete hybrid towers with a hub height of 166 meters, will substitute the currently installed turbines to increase annual energy production. The new tower offering highlights the advantages of the modular EnVentus architecture allowing improved versatility and local conditions optimization. However, relative to steel tower solutions, the hybrid tower approach would reduce the CO2 emissions of the turbines by more than 20 percent.…
