Eesti Energia has signed an agreement (PPA) with the Lithuanian wind energy company E energija to buy all the renewable energy generated by the future wind farm in ten years time. This is the largest such transaction in the Baltics in history. The latest E energija Telšiai 68.9 MW wind farm, to be launched in 2022, will generate 235 GWh of renewable energy per year, which will cover nearly 80.000 the annual energy use of households. In terms of electricity production this will be the largest wind park in Lithuania. In addition to household customers, Eesti Energia will provide business…
This year’s Hans Christian Ørsted research award goes to Professor Olav Breinbjerg, one of the world’s leading researchers in antenna technology. The foundation for Olav Breinbjerg’s research is electromagnetism, which was discovered by Hans Christian Ørsted 200 years ago. Two internationally renowned young researchers will receive the Hans Christian Ørsted research talent award. In collaboration with Langeland Municipality, where Hans Christian Ørsted was born, and with funding from the energy company Ørsted, the Hans Christian Ørsted Society (H.C. Ørsted Selskabet) is awarding this year’s Hans Christian Ørsted research award and two Hans Christian Ørsted research talent awards. The awards celebrate…
OPDEnergy has closed of a $103 million financing for two of its wind farm landmark projects in Chile. The financing was given to Opdenergy by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). The funds obtained will be allocated to the construction of the La Estrella wind farm, located in the Bernardo O’Higgins area of Libertador General and the Sol de los Andes PV plant in the Atacama area. The wind farm at La Estrella would have installed capacity of 50 MW. This park, which OHL Industrial is constructing, will have eleven wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa. In particular, they are SG…
Landmark agreement with EDF Renewables North America will see Masdar expand its footprint in the US to California and Nebraska, and grow presence in Texas. The clean energy assets include wind, solar PV, and battery storage projects with a total combined capacity of 1.6 GW. Masdar’s second strategic investment in the United States in a deal with EDF Renewables will see it acquire a 50 percent stake in a 1.6-gigawatt clean-energy portfolio. Under the terms of the agreement, Masdar has acquired a 50 percent interest in three utility-scale wind farms in Nebraska and Texas totaling 815 megawatts (MW), and five…
Wind energy is a key technology to Europe’s recovery from COVID-19. New wind projects are cost-competitive and shovel-ready. And to achieve the Green Deal objective of climate neutrality by 2050, Europe needs five times more wind energy than it has today. In its Recovery Strategy, the EU Commission encouraged the Member States to invest in green and future-proof technologies such as wind. With the right regulatory framework in place, wind energy promises immediate and lasting job creation to spur the EU economy. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, wind has proved resilient both in terms of power production from existing wind farms…
Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has advised SDCL Energy Efficiency Income Trust (SEEIT) on its purchase from Electric Vehicle Network Limited (EVN) of an initial 112 fast and ultra-fast EV charging stations throughout the UK for a total valuation of up to £50 million. The sites are expected to take six to twelve weeks to develop, mostly situated in forecourts and car parks with large site owners. In addition to the original 112 locations, EVN plans to build another approximately 380 EV charging locations, which will cost an estimated £150 million over the next 36 months, for which SEEIT has…
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has provided funding of $20 million for the development of photovoltaic solar perovskite technologies. Perovskites are a class of materials with a particular structure of crystals, named after the structure of the mineral. These have shown promise for high efficiency and low cost of production when used for producing solar cells. In order to be competitive on the marketplace, the long-term durability of perovskite needs to be checked and confirmed, the purpose of this announcement of funding potential through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) of DOE. “Under this Administration, the…
OuYang Offshore has awarded AqualisBraemar the construction supervision contract for two newbuild self-elevating wind turbine installation vessels to be constructed at Chinese shipyard Dayang Offshore Equipment. AqualisBraemar’s on-site team at Jiangsu-based Dayang Offshore Equipment will monitor and supervise the construction of the two wind turbine installation vessels – OuYang 003 and OuYang 004 – to ensure that all work is carried out under the contract specifications plus flag and class requirements.
