Thyssenkrupp has expanded its manufacturing capacities as response to a rising demand for industrial electrolysis plants that can produce green hydrogen cost-efficiently. The expansion allows Thyssenkrupp to produce electrolysis cells with a total power consumption of up to one gigawatt annually, together with its strategic supplier and joint venture partner De Nora. “Many countries around the world are currently planning to enter the hydrogen economy. Water electrolysis is increasingly emerging as a key technology for building a sustainable, flexible energy system and carbon-free industry. This opens up new markets for us.”Sami Pelkonen, CEO of Thyssenkrupp’s chemical & process technologies business unit. Green…
Scatec Solar has commissioned a combined solar and battery storage plant in Malakal, South Sudan. The facility will power the Malakal Humanitarian Hub, which is operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The project would reduce the Hub’s diesel consumption by at least 80%. “We are thrilled to have completed this project for IOM and the Humanitarian Hub in Malakal. This is our second hybrid project for a United Nations (UN) organisation in South Sudan, and with a third project to be completed for UNMISS in the next few weeks, we are reinforcing our support of the United Nations…
Adani Green Energy has secured the first of its kind manufacturing linked solar agreement from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). As part of the award, AGEL will develop 8 GW of solar projects. Adani Solar will also set up 2 GW of additional solar cell and manufacturing capacity for the modules. This award, the world’s largest of its kind ever, will entail a single investment of $6 billion and will generate 400.000 direct and indirect jobs. It would also displace over its lifespan 900 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. It is also another significant move in India continuing to…
The French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition has reveled the winners of the 10th round of tenders for commercial and industrial rooftop photovoltaic systems with generating capacity ranging from 100 kW to 8 MW. The ministry picked 306 projects in the procurement exercise, with a total installed capacity of 152 MW. The projects will value the electricity produced for projects with generating capacity ranging from 100 kW to 500 kW at an average price of € 96.49 / MWh and €86.17 / MWh for those with capacity ranging from 500 kW to 8 MW. However, the final average prices of…
When we continue to plan beyond the current crisis, the idea of a ‘green recovery’ seems to be one of the buzz words at the moment. Throughout the spectrum, activists, companies, academics , and politicians are calling for urgency and action to resolve the climate emergency as we find our way out of lockdown. With a significant economic downturn forecast, governments around the world look to balance the public health emergency with the need to take action to save the economy. But pressure is also mounting for recovery to focus on sustainability. With less traffic and less emissions, it was apparent…
Taking into account the postponement of several final investment decisions (FIDs) on projects and lower investments in offshore oil and gas, combined with increased activity in the offshore wind sector, the energy research and business intelligence company Rystad Energy expects the two markets to reach parity as early as next year. The oil market collapse caused by the Covid-19 pandemic is set to delay several oil and gas developments in Western Europe, putting capital spending on an ongoing downward trajectory through 2022 in the offshore sector. Rystad Energy expect capital investment (capex) on offshore wind would exceed upstream European O&G…
Jan De Nul began construction works for the Formosa 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. Nearshore and onshore building work started at the landfall site in Miaoli County and Taichung port. The nearshore pre-trenching works and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) from the shore has started at the landfall site in Miaoli County. Four HDDs will be drilled in total at the site of the landfall. For pre-trenching near HDD exits, the configuration of in-house developed Starfish excavators was specifically adapted to suit Taiwanese offshore wind projects. Meanwhile, 50 kilometers south in Taichung, work on onshore preparations is well underway with…
Antaisolar has designed and provided aluminum solar rackings for a 21.6MW solar project in Hiroshima, Japan. It was reviewed by METI of Japan in January 2020 and started in March, expected to completed in March 2021. Antaisolar was able to provide the customized solar racking solution after dealing with complex terrain conditions, with more than 100 centimeters of snow, complicated soil structure, and high-cost performance and construction efficiency for maximizing solar panel arrangement. The panels are placed in both north and south directions, with a triangular-roof-like arrangement, to maximize the arrangement and improve power generation.
More than A$3 billion in renewable hydrogen projects are contesting to be funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to build the country’s first commercial hydrogen projects. ARENA opened the A$70 million Renewable Hydrogen Deployment Funding round in April to help track renewable hydrogen development in Australia faster. With the initial application stage closing, ARENA reported it had received 36 expressions of interest (EOI) in the funding round. Through the funding round, ARENA aims to support two or more large-scale renewable hydrogen projects with an electrolyser capacity of at least 5 MW and a 10 MW or larger preference.…
DNV GL has signed a contract with Sing Da Marine Structure (SDMS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Steel Corporation (CSC) to support the government’s localization efforts towards offshore project development and building up of the local supply chain in Taiwan. This new collaboration between DNV GL and SDMS follows the conclusion of a successful partnership between DNV GL and CSC, where experts from DNV GL assisted CSC in building its offshore wind farm in Zone 29 with technical insights and specialist support based on their worldwide experience. The Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs aims to generate 20 percent…
