According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the first round of the request for pre-investment studies for zero and low-emission hydrogen projects in Colombia, which concluded on May 20, received 58 applications.
The call is part of the Fund for Non-Conventional Energies and Efficient Energy Management’s More Hydrogen Colombia program (Fenoge).
58 funding requests were received in Colombia during the first phase of the call for pre-feasibility or feasibility stages for production, storage, conditioning, distribution, re-electrification, and final uses of hydrogen as a raw material or industrial input for green or blue hydrogen.
Miguel Lotero, the Deputy Minister of Energy, stated that “zero and low-emission hydrogen represents the future of the energy transition owing to its ability to decarbonize businesses that consume a lot of fossil fuels.” That is why we developed the Hydrogen Roadmap and have already launched the country’s first two pilot projects to create green hydrogen, allowing the country to fully exploit the potential of this new energy vector.”
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s study, several efforts have already been identified along the value chain of zero and low-emission hydrogen. According to the press release, Fenoge is tangibly finding projects in Colombia that make use of the abundant hydro, wind, and solar resources, as well as their potential, to create energy for the manufacture of green hydrogen.
“The call got an unexpected reception,” said Katharina Grosso Buitrago, Fenoge’s director. “We will continue to engage on all fronts,” he added, “teaching, creating awareness, and contributing to hydrogen information management, as well as channeling and accelerating the largest number of resources to assist the financial closings of these projects from our function as an investment fund.”
