Green Energy Park (GEP) has ignited a new chapter in Brazil’s energy sector, securing significant funding and long-term rights to a hydrogen port terminal for green ammonia exports to Europe.

GEP’s ambitious plan includes the construction of a groundbreaking 10.8 gigawatt (GW) green hydrogen plant in Piaui, Brazil. This initiative aims to export green hydrogen to Croatia, facilitating distribution across southeast Europe. The project signals a monumental leap towards sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.

With a strong backing from various partners and financial institutions, GEP is committed to distributing green hydrogen-based fuels to industrial and transport sectors. By integrating cutting-edge hydrogen production technologies and leveraging renewable electricity, the project promises to deliver sustainable energy solutions to meet growing demands.

Bart Biebuyck, CEO of GEP, hails Piaui as the epicenter of the hydrogen revolution, emphasizing the region’s strategic significance in renewable hydrogen production. By harnessing innovative process engineering solutions, GEP aims to establish Piaui as a global leader in green hydrogen production.

Victor Hugo Almeida, CEO of Investe Piaui, underscores the economic opportunities presented by the GEP project. With the potential to create thousands of high-quality jobs and drive green industrialization, the initiative holds immense promise for the state’s economy. Moreover, the project aims to attract international businesses, fostering a conducive investment environment.

Brazil is taking proactive steps to incentivize green hydrogen production, as evidenced by the passing of Bill 2308/23 by Brazil’s Lower House. The establishment of the Low Carbon Emission Hydrogen Development Program (PHBC) underscores Brazil’s commitment to fostering low-carbon hydrogen production and commercialization, paving the way for a sustainable energy future.

As GEP’s hydrogen project gains momentum, Brazil is poised to emerge as a key player in the global hydrogen economy. With innovation, collaboration, and strategic foresight, GEP is leading the charge towards a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
