Hanwha has decided to incorporate KBR’s ammonia decomposition technology into its domestic hydrogen projects.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea plans to produce 2.9 million tons of hydrogen annually by 2030.
KBR’s technology promises to streamline ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion, a critical component as the nation accelerates its hydrogen infrastructure development. Hanwha’s integration of KBR’s technology could potentially reduce bottlenecks in hydrogen supply chains and address efficiency issues that have long hindered faster adoption.
The collaboration underscores a broader trend within South Korea, where conglomerates are increasingly investing in green technologies. The Korean government’s subsidies and tax benefits for renewable energies are driving corporate strategies toward reducing dependency on fossil fuels. Last year alone, investments in hydrogen infrastructure and technology exceeded 10 trillion won, indicative of the sector’s growing significance in the national energy policy.
