Hyundai Motor Group hosted the ‘AAM Tech Day 2022’ event at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang, where it unveiled its ‘Advanced Air Mobility (AAM)’ vision for the future.
AAM is a concept that extends beyond Hyundai Motor Group’s announced business area of urban air mobility (UAM) to include inter-regional air mobility (RAM). RAM denotes an environmentally friendly aircraft development area for transit between large cities and regional bases, whereas UAM concentrates on the development of vertical take-off and landing aircraft that operate in urban areas.
The R&D findings of ‘Project N,’ a hydrogen fuel cell and battery-based multi-copter drone built for research purposes, were shown for the first time by Hyundai Motor Group.
The Project N aircraft, unlike the battery-powered general UAM aircraft, is meant to go greater distances by combining a hydrogen fuel system with a battery. By repeating power and flight experiments for this aircraft, Hyundai Motor Group has shown the feasibility of constructing a RAM aircraft utilizing hydrogen energy.
In February, Project N received airworthiness certification and was registered as Korea’s first hydrogen fuel cell aircraft.
At the AAM headquarters, Hyundai Motor Group set up a job counseling booth to explain the developer recruiting process, benefits, and company culture in detail.
“Based on its expertise in vehicle development, sophisticated car technologies such as autonomous driving, and mass manufacturing know-how, Hyundai Motor Group is convinced that it will be able to bring to market an innovative and safer aircraft than its competitors,” said Shin. “We’ll keep working hard to make that happen,” he stated.
