Major Hydrogen Tender Issued by Norway to Boost Hydrogen Infrastructure

Norway has announced a significant tender titled “Framework Agreement for Operational Services in Oslo, Østfold, Akershus, Innlandet, Buskerud, Vestfold, Telemark, and Agder” on August 19, 2024.

The deadline for the receipt of tenders is set for September 20, 2024. This tender is crucial for advancing the country’s hydrogen infrastructure, aiming to improve the operational efficiency and service quality in key regions.

The primary goal of the tender is to establish a comprehensive framework agreement for janitorial and operational services in several counties across Norway. This framework is expected to streamline maintenance processes and ensure high standards of service in facilities critical to the hydrogen industry. The operational services will include regular cleaning, maintenance, and other support activities essential for the seamless functioning of hydrogen-related infrastructure.

From a strategic perspective, the tender underscores the Norwegian government’s commitment to fostering a robust hydrogen economy. By ensuring that facilities involved in hydrogen production, storage, and distribution are well-maintained, Norway aims to support the efficient and safe development of hydrogen technologies. This, in turn, will contribute to greater adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source, aligning with national and EU-wide sustainability goals.

For bidders, the main requirements include proven experience in providing janitorial and operational services, preferably in the energy sector, as well as the capacity to deliver these services across multiple regions. Companies must demonstrate their ability to adhere to stringent safety and environmental standards, which are particularly critical in the context of hydrogen facilities due to the flammable nature of hydrogen gas.

Technical specifics such as the types of cleaning agents to be used, waste management protocols, and frequency of maintenance schedules are precisely detailed in the tender, though presented in an accessible manner to encourage a wide range of potential service providers to apply. The emphasis is on using eco-friendly materials and methods to sustain the green credentials of the hydrogen industry.
